I've got a 10 week, almost 11 week old that I'm stumped on. I'm hoping girl but wonder if I'm wrong! The pictures are taken of a moving target so are not the best!
I've had a broody silkie sitting on this egg and just moved her and egg inside in brooder. I've candled previously and looked fine, today it looks like the attached pictures. I can't tell if it's viable or not. The air cell seems to move around a great deal. Does this look like it will hatch...
Oh yes, totally checked for any kind of marks, etc. But no sign. This was also the chick that has never gotten over pasty butt. I was told that she probably had issues inside her as well. I'm thinking that after all my work and treating of her it finally just wasn't enough. :(
I just had a silkie chick who as about 9 weeks old die. It was fine an hour ago out with it's flock buddies, eating, etc. All of a sudden it was flopping around in circles, beating it's wings like it was trying to get upright and then died.
Help? I have no idea what is going on. No signs of a...
The chick was hatched by a reputable breeder and she's not cut at all, probably just the coloring. I'm including a few pictures of her upright so you can see the whole chick.
I thought this silky chick had pasty butt when I first got her though her vent seemed to protrude oddly and she'd make a high pitched noise each time she pooped. So, I did everything I was reading, washing her off, even putting vaseline on her hiney to try to help keep it from sticking. I...
I had one pullet right at 12 weeks old all of sudden acting as if she had hurt her leg. Able to stand on one and was still able to make me chase her to catch her to check. I had her outside in a pen where she could see everyone else but it's turned colder so I've set her up in a brooder set up...
So, this one was purchased as a 5month old pullet, but the streamers coming in on the head sure are telling me that it's not a girl. What do you all think?
My 12 week old pullet all of a sudden seems to have hurt her leg. She can run on it if she wants to (like getting away from me!) but then lays down and the leg is basically stretched out in front of her. No marks on it, doesn't appear swollen. I've already separated her which she's not happy...
Thank you for in the input. I know we had a fox around here at one time but haven't seen it in months...but with the way they are just "disappearing" whatever it is is fast and clever. I do have a covered run for them as well, but they're spoiled and enjoy free ranging around the yard. I moved a...
I lost a young EE bantam pullet this afternoon. In the past I've lost 2 EE bantams that were about to lay and a cockerel about the same age as my pullet I lost today.
Today I did find feathers, but on the other's they've just vanished.Same time period on each of them, somewhere around 4 - 7...
I have a just over week old silkie chick that has a protruding vent, pasty butt and makes a very high pitched cry every time it tries poops or tries to. It has no fuzz left on it's butt so the black skin is on display.
Eating and drinking just fine, checked it's crop last night and this...
Once again, first time chicken Mom with questions. I have 2 EE bantam pullets, 20 weeks old this week, that are beginning to show signs such as the comb reddening and definitely squatting. They have both become very docile/lovey with me, sitting in my lap for treats, easily picked up and...
Blue is an EE bantam pullet right at 19 weeks old. She has not started to lay, doesn't squat or anything else I've read to be looking for before they start to lay. For the last several days she's been making this kind of "creeeee" noise that has me concerned. I've checked her all over, she looks...
If I don't grab her first thing in the morning, it's a challenge to get a hold of her again until later afternoon at treat time. Yeah, they have their own treat time where they come get mealworms, corn, scratch, etc from my hand. I've talking with Kathy and I'm feeding her as I should and making...
So I am feeding her too much to start out which is what I was afraid I was being overly enthusiastic with her. I'll back off and make sure that she's emptied out her crop before feeding again. She does drink on her own as I have both horizontal nipples on a bucket and vertical nipples on several...
