I just lost a hen. When I let them out this morning, she came out of the coop but hardly ate any treats and her tail feathers were at an angle not straight back. She was fine yesterday. Just curious about what could have caused her to die and making sure it can’t affect my other chickens...
My hens, RIR and BSL just started laying this week. Exciting! But now those hens forage like it's their last time. I feed them layer crumbles but they aren't eating it like they used too. Is this normal or are they lacking some vitamins? Thanks for all your help!
A few weeks ago I went out to the coop to let out my 4 babies, and found them mutilated in the coop. My question is this...how do you ever get over this and try to raise more? I think I have figured out how they got in but I have gone through wanting to chop up the coop in little pieces to...
I lost my red star last week and got another yesterday. The other three, 2 Ameracanas and one BSL are being mean to her. I know there is a time of pecking order that goes on but I feel so sorry for her because they hang together and she just sits by herself? Will this pass and if so how long...
I'm a newbie to the chicken world so this is probably a stupid question. How do I get my 4 week old chicks from the coop to the run. The run is about 20 ft from the coop. Do I pick up the chicks kicking and screaming and take them to the run or do I just let them out and try to persuade them...
First time chicken mom and have another question. I have a run separate from my coop that I build for the girls after they get a litlie bigger. When I move them to the run for the first time, do I have pick them up and take them or what? I'm just so scared to let them out for the first time...
I have 4 chicks that are around 3 weeks old. They are in the upper coop but I was wondering how soon they can handle a ramp. I want to let them go down to the grass but I'm worried I won't be able to get them back in the coop at night. I just want to make sure they go up at night.
Second thing...
My 31/2 week old chicks have been in the main coop for over a week where I have food and water. They love spinach and will eat it out of my hands. I want to let them down in the bottom of the coop (which is secure) should I only have water, where they have to go back up the ramp into the coop...

Can anyone tell me if this red star is male or female? She's about 3 weeks old and I'm a newbie to the chicken world. I only want hens for eggs said don't know what I'll do if this is a rooster.
Thanks !
Anxiously waiting for your responses!!
I just got 4 babies, all the same age, 1 is a red star, 1 BSL, 2 Ameracanas. The BSL is the runt of the bunch and is being picked on. They are in a box right now since they are so young. I give them scrambled eggs every morning because I read they aren't getting enough protein. I can't...
i have a small coop tractor that has a pull out tray. What do you place on it so that you can clean it easier? Thanks to everyone for answering my questions.
I'm a first time chicken owner. I have a small brand new chicken tractor and want to make sure I pick the perfect birds. I want them to be friendly and good layer. I'm thinking about sex links and really like the black sex link. I want 3 females. Should I get a black, buff and red sex or should...
My husband and I just bought Pawhut deluxe chicken tractor and want to have hens for eggs. It says it can hold 3-4 chickens but there are only 2 roosting boxes. Should we only get 2 hens or can we get 3-4?
Second,we have raccoons around, do they kill chickens or just go for the eggs?
