@azygous She was stretching her neck and keeping it out but now she’s resting normally, neck in.
She’s pooped again and that was normal as well. Our local TSC was out of Tylan (we live an hour away so I called) but we have another one about 1 1/2hrs away and they say they’ll have a shipment in...
Thank you all for your help! I’ve stalked this site for years and appreciate all of you.
It seems like her eye is a little better. Hasn’t tried to scratch it for a while but I do notice labored breathing. Not wheezy, but her neck is outstretched.
They are TSC chicks (yes, I know!)
I did the saline wash with ointment this morning. It seems to be the lower eyelid, not directly in the eye. Still, poor thing is scratching but it nearly as often as this morning.
Haven’t seen any signs of lice or mites but I can go check again. And again...
She did poop and it looks normal. No blood, not runny, just...poop.
Only chick crumbles.
Pine shavings in the brooder box.
No sick adults; the one yesterday died and I had her isolated in a separate box. Threw that box away just in case.
Thanks for the reply!
Brooder is in our shop away from the adult chickens. I keep them separated until about 5 weeks old. No musty smells or anything out of the norm. Everyone else is healthy and avoiding me even though I handle them daily, multiple times.
This little one is isolated in my...
Yesterday I lost a 1-week old Brahma chick from what I can guess was failure to thrive. She was the only one who hadn’t grown and constantly had pasty butt even with cleanings and Vaseline.
This morning, I woke up to a Jersey Giant chick, same age, who is trying to scratch her eyelid. I...
That's great! Went to check on them this morning - still not used to it all but they at least hopped up on top of the nesting boxes and a few tried out the makeshift roosting ladder. The chickens are curious but ignored them pretty quickly. Funny enough, the one hen who has always been a loner...
So, I kept my Keets in our big shop for the past 5 weeks. They were born July 5 and I've babied them the whole time (started with 17, 2 DOA, 2 gone the day after they arrived, 1 I fed with a syringe but he was injured. Ended up with 12. There's a post on that farther down...)
Anyway, the...
Thanks!
I have done all that but I am staying vigilant on the pasty butt thing. Those keets will have the cleanest butts in New Mexico! LOL
Their brooder box is actually a giant rubber stock tank, about 4 feet across. Only half of it is warmed and with our hot temps, I've raising the light...
Hi there! I just got mine a few days ago, too! Did you read the Raising Guineas 101? That has a lot of answers but I'm sure you're already learning!
How many did you get? I currently have 13...started with 17 but 2 were DOA, 2 so far are gone from pasty butt. I'm a little more vigilant about...
Nevermind....Little Bubble Butt passed away sometime last night or this morning. Yesterday I saw a black mass near it's leg and thought - oh that must be the poop it can't squeeze out! Turns out it was blood. Poor guy was probably injured on the trip here and it just got worse. I did give...
We got keets on July 7 through the mail. They were born July 5. 2 were already gone while traveling and 1 passed last night. It was my fault on that last one, though...I put off wiping butts and it had a pretty bad pasty butt. So first thing this morning I wiped Keet butts with warm water...
I got this little cutie from a preschool along with 2 Orpingtons. This one just is a little different...smaller, redder comb, and different colors in its feather pattern. The other two are solid buff and solid orange.
I'm wondering if this is a hen or roo and if this is also a more colorful...
This morning I let the girls put and none of them would go except Laura (named after my BFF; they're both skinny and always eating but I love them both just the same.
Anyway, I checked on them about 45 minutes ago to see if they were out, if they had water, maybe another afternoon egg...
Hi all! Clayton, NM here and formerly Las Cruces and Albuquerque.
I've adopted 3 Orpingtons, 1 Plymouth Rock, 1 Leghorn and we brought 3 younger Orpingtons when we moved; they're now about 8 weeks old. Total of 8 so far with 15 Guinea Keets on the way! And did I mention we've only been at it...
Come on up! The highs are finally in the 90's and lows still in the 60's: perfect to me!
My hubby grew up here and I joke that I've been prepping for the move since every town we've moved to gets smaller and smaller. ;) I honestly am loving it right now.
