~Thank you, judges. : O
I really appreciate it! : ]
I wasn't expecting to get any place at all, haha.
There are truly some amazing palaces people make for their chickens..... -Ones that I can greatly learn from. And I hope to make even better coops in the future!
~Keep up the awesome...
Hello,
Last month our rabbit broke his right pair of upper incisors after a fall. The vet said they might grow back, and luckily they have! We checked him again about 2 weeks ago and the vet said everything looked good so far.
So, now that they're almost fully back, I am wondering if anyone...
Yes, you can use a permethrin-based spray under her arms and throughout her feathers. But read the packaging before spraying/using. It is still a harmful chemical in too-large amounts, and should be used with appropriate caution.
But perhaps the lice are spreading another illness besides...
I'm a little late, but here's a bit about a "treat platter" I made them that works great, year-round. Simply remove the protective cap on one of the nails that's sticking up, and shove-on a cabbage head, apple, or whatever you find appropriate:
I made it using a scrap of marine-plywood...
How many roosting-bars are there? -Surely there must be space for the other hens somewhere....? At least once it's dark, they can't really peck/attack each-other.
lol
-Sounds like one bossy boss of a chicken.
Still, I'm sorry for your woes. Do you watch her during the day? She's probably at/near the top of the pecking-order, yes?
Thanks for the reply in general!
Up until a few days (2-5?) before Jack died, I was letting the birds out of their pen pretty much daily, letting them forage and watching them closely. When I was, I managed to check his droppings up-close at least twice. As far as I could tell, nothing was...
Yeah, so it turns out he accidentally got a shipment of alligator eggs instead. -A fairly common mistake. -It happens to the best of us. But I guess he committed to raising them instead of chicks....? -So, all is good. He has about 30 more days to go in the incubator, so no worries.
Thank you for the input!
Well, according to info. from Amazon on "Rooster Booster Poultry Cell, 16-Ounce", it contains 400mg(!) of iron per fluid ounce.
1 Fluid Ounce (US) ≈ 29.57344 ml
-So, at "2-3 ml daily", that's:
-> (400mg/29.57344ml)x2 ≈ 27mg
-> (400mg/29.57344ml)x3 ≈ 40.5mg...
Earlier this year I lost a chick to malpositioning. The sadness inspired me to write this article. You can spend 5-10min reading it if you begin to get concerned... (-Read the important bits in red and/or the "Things to learn:" section at the bottom if you don't have much time.)
I will say...
Yeah, but if you saw movement in some eggs 2 days ago, I would personally be concerned. Those probably should have hatched by now.
You have yet to have a single one hatch?....
I am really happy to hear/read! This was certainly a stranger case of egg-binding that I've seen.....
Did the vet clearly state to you what he/she was looking at? The uterus didn't rupture?.... Apparently it's all good, so that is great.(!)
I will just note that my Australorp, Charlize, had...
I'm not sure, but I would guess that a deeper portion of the uterus has prolapsed, thus preventing you from seeing a definitive opening as in that video in comment #2. If that is the case, it seems the egg would certainly have to be repositioned back into her to then allow it to come-out (after...
I would recommend speed but with care.
I am not a vet, but I have successfully dealt with a prolapse before.....
Whatever is outside should be kept from drying and lubricated. Olive oil will suffice. It should be cleaned with clean, warm water. You need to better identify the various parts...
-For a shorter version, read the "TL;DR" in red, below ⬇...
On the 1st of December, 2021, we lost a beloved rooster friend of ours, Jack (~a 3.5yo Red Orpington, 3-4kg). For probably at least 2.5 months before his death, he had (mostly secretly) been battling little swarms of parasitic mites...
Okay, I finally got around to fixing(?) this!
I re-uploaded pretty much every single picture...
Please let me know if you can now see everything.
Thanks!

Hello,
I lost a baby chick this morning to suffocation. :'(
-The cause of suffocation? -Unable to internally or externally pip to get air, due to a malposition trapping its head between its legs.
This post is to help others identify and avoid unnecessary deaths of chicks struggling in a...
