Snowbird, here is a pic of my Marans. The rooster has no tail to speak of yet. Can you identify the other pullets and what they are called by color? Do they all lay brown eggs?
I would like this thread to be a teaching and informational thread for people like myself who have Marans of all colors, French as well as English. I have a mixed batch, 5 pullets, and rooster. So far the colors I know are Black Copper, Cuckoo, and a Buff. I will take pics and post for...
I have 2 Marans pullets that are 3 to 4 months old. They are completely black. Could this be black copper Marans? I think one has a green sheen. New to the breed.
I have a Cockoo Rooster question... He is about 4 months old. A cuckoo Marans rooster. His legs were a slate gray, today when I went to put ice in their water, I noticed that they were almost a flesh color. Is this normal? New to the breed.
I forgot that the do that (molts within year one). I'll bet that's what it is. None had tail feathers when I got them, now only one doesn't, the cuckoo rooster.
I got some pullets a few weeks ago. A few of them are missing tail feathers due to over crowding and getting picked on. They are approximately 4 months old and Marans. Will the tail feathers grow back or do they have to molt first?
Ok, glad to hear that! We are new to PA and this farm store is so close. I am feeding the multi flock crumbles and the scratch feed. They have oyster shell also. They were skinny when I got them but they have been eating a lot and also fresh grass and look much more like chickens! Thanks...
Does anyone have any experience with Blue Seal feeds and scratch? I was feeding laying crumbles and went to a store near here to get them crumbles without the calcium. I got a 25 lb. bag of scratch too, both Blue Seal brand. Any thoughts?
I have Marans pullets about 4 months old.
