I didn't order from Ideal directly but I know the feed store where we got our last batch did. First thing when we got them home I had to treat ALL 15 chicks for pasty butt. It was terrible cases too. Also one of the polish chicks is missing a toe. Let's fast forward 3 weeks to today I have one...
Hi anyone know or are breeding Bantam Cochins in California. I am in the east Bay Area and would like to add several to our flock. And a few silkies too.
It takes time. I used to sit out side for hours just watching them. Calling their name and giving lots of neck scratches. They will come around. Try treats like animal crackers or even give hay from your hand.
We have 10 hens. 3 are daily layers, they were laying when we got them.
We have 7 pullets 6 of which we have raised since day 1. The 6 are 19 weeks old. The other is close behind but we are unsure of the exact age.
These 6 (3-RIR and 3-EE) show absolutely NO signs they will be laying anytime...
2/3 from our layers
0/7 from the 17 week pullets.
We did remind them they could start laying at any time lol. They are our 1 day olds we brought home.
Our layers were laying when we got them.... So it's hard to be patient.
Very well said. I haven't added ACV to their water yet but I will look into it. I read about ACV being used to clean the buckets but not actually as a drink. I always do health checks on our small herd daily, this includes watching everyone pee. So far so good. We have lost 2 since getting into...
Best one I think. Plus I finally found a TSC near us saves us about $8 every bag of feed we buy there and & $4 on our goat minerals I'm one happy camper. You would have thought it was a big sale at Macys when my husband took me to TSC for my first time :)
You can leave the does unbred no problem. Only thing that wethers are more prone to is Urinary Calculi. But if you are sure to give them the correct minerals containing ammonium Cloride it prevents this from happening also with any goat or animal make sure they have fresh clean water at all...
We have 2 wethers and they are sweet. And are more "pet" like. They do not smell like bucks. As long as you provide them with minerals that contain ammonium Cloride we use manna pro minerals given free choice. We also have 2 does we do not plan on mating so we won't be getting milk from them.
Sad story was we weren't too smart and fed the chickens and they scratched it out of the pen. Even the smallest amount could kill a goat. I see people asking all the time why their goat is sick and they are feeding them chicken feed. Yikes.
Last but not least Buster, he reminds me of Eeyore but he's my sweet boy. Loves to sit on my lap. But he is the first noise you'll hear bright and early in the morning. He's quite the cry baby sometimes
