When I discovered my 2 black Cochin banties were sitting in a nest with 14 eggs, I was shocked. I had no idea which were old and which were fresh. So I gathered the eggs and hens into a basket and gave them a spot in my side of the big coop. I have hatched using the incubator, but I enjoyed this...
I also drove 3 hours to get to the fair this morning. By noon we were ready to get some lunch. What a disappointment! Four booth choices which included $12.00 hamburgers and $3.00 sodas. Harvey Usserys' talk and slides on chickens in the garden was very informative and I found it very useful...
I live in Centre County PA and we insulated the walls and ceiling and very glad I did. I used a heat lamp on really cold nights and between that and the chickens giving off heat, the temps went no lower than 33 degrees all winter. With the cooling off at night now, and keeping the door shut...
Ours is 12 x 18 as shown on left of pic. There is a pull up ramp underneath, operated from a hook and nylon rope. My birds were all full-size hens and had no problems with it. I also used a plastic container filled with sand, sitting on top of it at night. They used it for dusting themselves...
I got 3 D'uccles that turned out to be 2 girls and a boy. Also got 2 white silkies, a boy and a girl. The sixth chick died the next day and I don't know what it was.
Here is an updated photo of the Naked Neck/Cochin that hatched this morning. Nine have hatched, 2 more pips and one egg just sitting there. So exciting!

I am thinking a straight comb, but it is so tiny I'm just not sure. The coloring is a very light reddish blonde with a little darker shade on top of the head.
Any opinions on breed of this 8 day old chick from MurrayMcMurray? It is very tiny with no feathers on its yellow legs, and the wings have bits of dark grey. Thanks!
I just received my MM chick order this morning, too. Ordered 50 and received 54. There was something green in both sides of the box but don't know what it was. I am extremely pleased with these chicks, very active and look so good. They were shipped April 2 and arrived here in central PA at...
I vote for the storage area. My feed tubs fit under the table and I use the tabletop for lots of stuff. This winter I raised the table using buckets, added a heat lamp under it and brooded some chicks. Right now I have a sick hen in that area. I also put a hen in a dog crate sitting on top of...
