Hey There - It sounds like you are doing what you need to be doing. If she has survived for more than a day or two I bet she will be alright. I have a jack russell terrier who has attacked/killed several of my chickens (if they accidently got out). It is so frustrating to me. I have found...
Hi there,
Last winter, one of my chickens (Gertrude) got frost bite on her comb and feet. I was able to take care of her, and she is healthy now and even lays eggs. However, she did lose her feet (she still has her legs). I am not able to put her in the chicken yard with my other chickens...
Thank you to everyone who helped me this past winter/spring with my hen Gertrude. She got really bad frostbite on her feet and comb. Her feet fell off, as well as most of her comb. I just wanted to let everyone who helped me out know that she is doing just fine. I have to keep her seperate...
Thank you everyone for your help with this matter. Her other foot has not fallen off yet, but it is just a matter of time. Your advice has been wonderful and hard to read but necessary. Thank you.
Her one leg (where the foot has already fallen off) is healed over. The other one that is getting ready to fall off is bleeding just a little bit. I think she was in a lot of pain when the frostbite first hit back in December or early January. The nerves have to be way dead now right????
Thanks for everyone's help. Our chicken coop is nice and warm - so I don't understand how she got frostbite in the first place. Perhaps she was the last one in and got stuck by the door? Or maybe she got stuck outside somehow? The rest of my girls are just fine. So it is a puzzle as to why...
Hello - my chicken got frostbite this winter. Her comb and feet turned black. I've had her seperated from the rest of our chickens for about a month now. She has gained weight and looks good except for her feet and comb. Today when I went to check on her, one foot had fallen off. The other...
Thanks for everyone's help. I think everyone is right, and that it is frostbite. I've got gertrude in our barn under a heat lamp away from the other chickens. She seems to be doing better. I'll keep you posted on her progress. Thank you again for all of your help!!!!!!
I've inserted code below (pics of my sick chicken)
Thanks for everyone's input. I've been trying to get pictures of my sick chicken (Gertrude as I call her) uploaded, etc. and I'm not sure if I am successful or not. I've cut and pasted her image "codes" into the text of this reply. Let's...
Hi all - I'm fairly new to chickens (just started in April 2009), and I now think I have a sick chicken. She is just under a year, and has a black comb and black feet (they were red/pink). She likes to stay in the coop near the heat lamp. She will eat and drink, and she did have some kind of...
