    Janoel 12 incubator help!

I have had my Janoel 12 for a few years now. I live in Australia. A very hot part of Australia. Well at least from mid-spring, through summer and into mid-autumn. I just want to make people aware of a few issues this incubator has. Particularly if you live in a hot climate like Australia...

    Nitrogen euthanasia

Theres somthing wrong with the Corrosivness of Co2. I cant remeber which way (alk or Acid) but some ways from neautral PH wise. At the very least you could say in theory it would cause discomfort. https://www.hsa.org.uk/downloads/technical-notes/TN12-gas-killing-of-chickens-and-turkeys.pdf ^^^...

    Nitrogen euthanasia

DO NOT USE C02 (CARBON DIOXIDE) DO MORE RESEARCH FIRST!!! *Edit* I'm not necessarily responding to the Original Poster. I'm just posting Generally about using Co2. I only chimed in coz there seem to be some people happy about using Co2. Not Judging them. I haven't even used gas yet. But that's...

Why does a chicken make gagging movements with mouth?

Some Humans with Anxiety disorders (like me) have constant yawning as one of the symptoms. I don't know if hatchlings get anxiety, but yeh, Sometimes if I am getting an attack I have a constant and relentless and powerful urge to yawn. Yawning does not clear this feeling. you yawn, and with 5...

Newly hatched chick problem - need advice

OregonKat that's some great advice. Its really coming good now. Observed it eating and drinking, so we are safe there. It can get around, almost as quick as the others. However, I dare say there is still some issue (luckily, its pretty mild) with its leg(s). I say this because sometimes it likes...

Newly hatched chick problem - need advice

Ah ok, OreganKat. I honestly don't know much about splayed legs. the little I thought I knew said that it happened after they hatch from slip[ping around in the incubator or brooder. I have no idea it occurred before hatching. It still doesn't walk very well. as if it was walking on its heels...

Newly hatched chick problem - need advice

LOL. yeh, you guys are right. we're just first-time Hatchers and are probably overly worried. This last chick does seem a little small, a little weak. but it has settled down now. I think it may have sustained a small injury near its belly button and this may have been causing it some pain...

Newly hatched chick problem - need advice

So we've had 4/4 eggs successfully hatch. The very last one seemed to have a lot of difficultymaking the final steps in hatching. It pipped about 36 hours ago, it unzipped extremely slowly over night, the took a very long time to push with its leggs the eggs apart. Just moments ago it broke...

    First Eggtopsy :(

I have two hours and 15 Minutes of Video of the Hatch. The video ends about 20 Minutes after chick hatches. I still haven't taken any still shots. But I will. Oh god, I will. lol. I have just had a really big day and am exhausted. I am president of a local Hobby club and we meet on the first...

    First Eggtopsy :(

Chooks (chickens) are Amazing. When I first got 4 Chickens, many years ago, I really didn't expect such amazing difference in personalities, intelligence etc. Like our Rooster "chief" He hates us. We don't know why he is like that, we hand reared him. We were never able to win his affections. He...

    First Eggtopsy :(

Thanks for your kind words WVduckchick. The inner Membrane was not pierced at all before peeled it back. I could not see the beak until I unwrapped him. I had a feeling that was not a good thing. I was amazed there was no Smell. I was totally expecting all kinds of smells. But there was...

    Day 22 - Nothing :(

Well so much for my microphone. I don't know what I was hearing, it was not a chick. I talked with my wife and we agreed we would end it now and do an eggtopsy. The secondary reason was that if it was still alive it may need help. Its day 25, while I never could guarantee the Humidity...

    Day 22 - Nothing :(

yeh, I get the thing about the chicks movement because of my handling. The thing is, it doesn't move or change in front of me, it changes only from day to day. I feel it should move in front of me as well if it's going to move after I set it down. However, One eggs contents is starting to move...

    Day 22 - Nothing :(

One another thing. I have placed my Hygrometers into a ziplock bag for a salt test. They've been in the bag about 4 hours now and two are both reading 77%, the other 60% (the 60% one is the one I thought was the most accurate :/ I will leave them in there until tomorrow.

    Day 22 - Nothing :(

Hang on a minute. I just had an Idea. Audio Candling. I could tape a microphone to the side of the egg. Using my PC, I could make a recording that lasts for several days if I wanted to. I can then open the recording and view the waveform to skip to any sounds of interest. I can run various...
