I have a friend in SoCal that recently saw a pair of ravens walk into her coop and take eggs! She has been watching for them now. They are doing it pretty regularly!

It really depends on what is important to you. No one in Redding carries anything I would feed by chickens. I order all of my feed from a company in Oregon that comes through Redding every 2 weeks. Every once in a while, they are out of stock. In that case, I drive down to Chico.

I buy a lot of things from Azure Standard, including a good portion of my groceries. I host a drop in Redding, but the driver told me last week that he has a new drop starting in Cottonwood. I don't save $$ on my feed from Azure Standard, but I would not be able to get the brand(s) of chicken...

Can't remember if someone was interested, but there is a new Azure Standard drop point starting on the K-3 route in Cottonwood. And Azure Standard is carrying the Scratch & Peck GROWER now!

That is a great way to decide how much weight to give their "advice." We ONLY feed chicken feed with animal protein (fish meal). Most of us here know that chickens are omnivores. Feeding a vegetarian diet seems like it would be missing some critical amino acids! I have a friend that won't...

After several weeks of not having time to "get caught up" on this thread, I am now 200 pages behind. We'll just start fresh today. How has everyone been? Molly, I will keep you in my prayers. I have had more brain MRIs that most people, due to a congenital malformation that was not...

That is awesome! My great Pyr x Anatolians like to eat chicken feed. I think it has to do with the fish meal.

I only worry because they cannot get to her to stay warm at night if I don't move them. Tonight, when I got home, one of the chicks was roosting under her wing. Cutest thing EVER! The other 2 were down on the ladder rungs with no heat source. They are almost 5 weeks old, so not quite...

Why does it take me THREE days to catch up on this thread whenever I miss ONE day? Finally caught up, but I won't be on tomorrow, so it will all start again. Question for those who have let broodies raise chicks...How long will mama take care of them? Chicks are almost 5 weeks old, and mama...

He had been challenging her for a while, so I am pretty sure it was an act of aggression.

I have to respectfully disagree. While I do not find roosters to be scary, the reputation is not unfounded. My last roo was once gentle and friendly. He gradually started getting aggressive, until he finally attacked my 8yo daughter, tearing the skin on her back when she was bending over...

When I checked under my broody last night, I had 2 new fluffy butts! Will try to get some pics today. She was not allowing anyone else in her nesting box, so I was lazy and did not mark her eggs. on day 19, she had 2 new eggs under her, but I could not tell for sure which were the new...

This morning, that egg was just squished. I pulled it out and took the shell off to look at it. Not sure if it matters, but the head seemed to be pushed around almost backwards. Another egg has pipped and I hear peeping from some others. Hoping the other 3 all hatch!

Ron, the new egg is pretty! How exciting. My 2nd broody has been sitting for 22 days. I looked at her eggs while she was out eating today, and I heard nothing. Tonight, when I was checking to make sure every one made it inside, there was an egg with a big hole in it and a chick inside! Not...

We had to go down for a funeral in December. I could not wait to leave! I have never been a big LA person. The Mexican side of my family has a big house in East LA. That is about as much of LA as I am willing to handle. We live a much slower life than LA or OC can support. Before moving...
