She is truly broody. She is still sitting. Baby day is July 6th. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Although I have no idea what I am going to do with these babies. I don't have a seperate pen for them. I have a brooder that will work for a little while.
Thanks so much for the help. We have been busy building a temp. breeder box. Mama is still on the nest. We have had to do some quick fixes. She got out of the nest once and got back onto the wrong nest. Had to put her in the right one. No easy feat. Had to put a fence around her in her box...
This happened by accident. I guess we didn't collect the eggs in time or something. Anyway we have a broody hen sitting on we are not sure how many eggs. We put 6 more eggs under her after she got broody. We have never seen her get off the nest. She doesn't eat or drink when we offer it to...
I have a BO rooster (George) and I have no trouble with him. My grandson even picks him up, although I don't think he likes it. He has never used his spurs. When he was young he acted like he was going to show me he was boss, but I just stepped toward him and he gave it up. George is now...
I waited for my 15 hens to start laying. At 20 weeks I took a 5 day cruise and wouldn't you know they started laying while I was gone.
Three eggs while I was gone. I have been getting 2-3 each day. Today was a 4 egg day. PROGRESS:)
Hi
I am also a chicken addict. It is catching. Now my whole family are addicts. We have set up a chicken viewing area by our chickens. Complete with a coffee table for our feet and a chair for each family member. We set out as many evenings as we can and sometimes during the day if it is...
I have two Buff hens in a pen together. One is laying. Her eggs have been having something that resembles dirt on the yolk. Does anyone know what that could be. I am just learning.
Hi....I am in Sorrento, Florida (central fl). Started chicken fever in April. I now have 2 laying Buffs and 17 5 week old chicks. I have a page if you care to view it. Feel free to give me advice. I have made my share of mistakes, but fortunately nothing tooooo serious.
I have 17 baby orpingtons that have been outside since they were about 1 1/2 weeks old. We live in Florida and have the same temp as you. They are in a wire brooder inside a regular chain link covered pen. I have not used a light. I do cover them on three sides in case of rain or wind.
Hi. We have two week old chicks and 2 hens. We ordered DE to dust the coop and run and we were wondering if we could put it in their feeders. We live in Florida and it's really humid and we were hoping it might help keep their food dry. We know it won't hurt the hens but what about the...
Hi! We are new to this site and to raising chickens, and I was hoping someone might be able to help us out. If you move chickens from one coop to another will they start the pecking order all over again? I ask because we moved our two hens into a new space, and the one who we were sure was...
My grandson and I are just starting out with two month old chicks from our local feed mill. I have raised chicks in Pa. before, but need some help in Florida. Is there anything special I should know. Are they old enough to be kept outside? I have a coverd chicken pen and a barrell for them to...
