Runner duck with scab or crusty poop on vent laying bloody eggs

Just wanted to update and see about any advice. For 7 days, we treated with Miconazole (once or twice a day mostly on the outside scabby bit), sprayed once a day with chlorohexidine spray and then also used hemorrhoid cream once or twice a day. We also gave quite a bit of probiotics in her feed...

Runner duck with scab or crusty poop on vent laying bloody eggs

Wow... thank you very much for the insight and I'm sorry about all that. I hope she is okay now. I'm trying to think the best way to proceed based on your experience. Should I should just start with monistat cream and colloidal silver spray and see if it improves or actually go request...

Runner duck with scab or crusty poop on vent laying bloody eggs

Yes, she lays daily. We had three consecutive days of bloody eggs from her. By bloody, I mean it looks like one 1-2 in long streak of blood that is maybe 1 cm at the middle, widest part and tapers at both ends. I can get a picture tomorrow. We did put hemorrhoid cream on it yesterday to see if...

Runner duck with scab or crusty poop on vent laying bloody eggs

I have a 2 y/o runner duck that started laying bloody eggs and we noticed dark scabby or perhaps poop looking crust on her vent. It doesn't look like other prolapse or infection pics I have seen, so I'm wondering if this is perhaps a scab that will heal on its own or more likely an infection I...

    Stainless steel chicken waterers

I believe most local restaurant supply store should have them. I just linked to webstaurantstore but my plan was to buy at a local place. I could be wrong but restaurant supply stores tend to be cheaper than Amazon for this type of thing.

    Stainless steel chicken waterers

I am thinking of just getting a food grade 18/8 (304) stainless steel table steam pan from a restaurant supply store for $13 to use for my ducks. https://www.webstaurantstore.com/choice-2-3-size-standard-weight-anti-jam-stainless-steel-steam-table-hotel-pan-4-deep/4070142.html That should be...

Favorite Non-profits for the Benefit of Waterfowl

I am starting my estate planning and I would like to leave some funding for the benefit of ducks and geese. I have done a lot of research on waterfowl non-profits, but I wanted to get input from those who know more on the subject than I ever will. My estate is not that much by any means and the...

    Duck gasping

Thank you very much for the condolences. I'm very sorry to hear about Daisy. Unfortunately, I don't think we will ever know the cause of the infection. I thought we got antibiotics early enough to fight it if it were bacterial, but perhaps not. I guess that's why some vets refuse to treat...

    Duck gasping

Thank you all again for your help and support, but unfortunately our duck, K-Quack, did not make it. At times it seemed like she was recovering by eating a couple mealworms and drinking water, but this morning she was breathing so hard she couldn't even wet her beak without choking. After 8 more...

    Duck gasping

Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. She was breathing even worse this morning and looked like she lost weight overnight, so we took her back to the vet today to get those x-rays done. It turned out she has very bad levels of fluid or puss in her lungs. The only option now was to...

    Duck gasping

First off, thank you to everyone providing advice and support! Just to update for others experiencing the same thing as us: We gave her the 1 cc of calcium gluconate and some Vetrx in the afternoon, ~4pm. Throughout the evening our duck did not appear to get any better or lay anything. Late...

    Duck having trouble breathing

My duck is doing the same thing. If you happen to see this and are able to share what happened with your duck, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    Duck gasping

Thanks and thank you for the duck compliment! I am going to just attach one close-up photo of her for good measure and here is a video of her from a few minutes ago still exhibiting the full body, heavy open mouth breathing. https://photos.app.goo.gl/XC8XoUH47uH98uxk8 Now I am off to the...

    Duck gasping

She is a Khaki Campbell. They do seem to love posing for the camera. Do I just give 1 cc of the 23% calcium gluconate solution orally? Should I repeat at any time interval or just give the one dose and wait?

    Duck gasping

That is great info - thank you. This is insane, but our sick duck is engaging in pond activities with her sisters now. All the while heavy breathing and squeaking. She is a crazy duck!

    Duck gasping

Thank you all! We have a tractor supply nearby so we'll pick up some calcium gluconate and try that. If the symptoms are still present in the morning, we will call the vet and see if we can get her examined. When your layers do get egg bound, how soon do they typically take to resolve?

    Duck gasping

She has laid an egg every day since mid-March, including today (although later than usual). Is it still possible that she is egg bound?

    Duck gasping

My wife and I will consider the vet option and I'll keep you updated. We do greatly appreciate your input and advice! Nobody wants to pick favorites of kids and all, but if we had to then this duck would be it. Apparently she was in the nest box earlier because she was laying her egg. Then she...

    Duck gasping

There is vet about an hour a way we know of who sees waterfowl, but we were hoping to avoid the 2 hours of driving if this seems like a recognizable respiratory infection that requires a specific antibiotic that we may have access to. Are there telehealth vets these days?
