Her legs/feet look fine to me. If she is still holding her foot up, make sure to check around where her hip joint is to make sure there is no injury there. I had a girl limping and couldn't figure it out for the longest time. I ended up bringing her inside and checking and she had been...
She was likely offering help based on the title of the post. And it's an excellent comment for those of us experiencing bumblefoot for the first time. The OP originally thought she had a BF issue so no reason to call out someone trying to help based on the OP's post title.
Cynthia, thank you...
Thank you so much! Curious what is your shipping method in this day of USPS issue stuff we have going on? I'd be willing to pay for more dependable shipping if it meant the vitality of the eggs would be better. I know hatch rates can vary but since I can only get 6 eggs in my incubator, I...
Hello there folks.
I have been looking for months for 6 Blue Australorp hatching eggs and I thought I may have found someone here but they haven't responded yet, so I thought I'd desperate post here. I haven't ever incubated eggs before but my noob incubator only holds 6 eggs, and it seems most...
Hello. I am glad to see this thread is still alive. I'm new to chicken raising and I have 8 laying RIR females, 1 RIR rooster, and 2 11 week old Buff Orpingtons that I haven't introduced to the reds because I'm afraid they'll be mean to them. I want to diversify my flock and I am in love with...
Oh she is still with her sisters because she hasn't shown me any reason not to keep her in there. So not seperated from them. My apologies for any confusion with my post.
I am feeding my girls Purina non-medicated Starter/Grower.
I'm located in Eastern NC and the weather is like a yoyo here...
Hello all. I hope I get a better response here than I did on a chicken FB group. Which was none at all. LOL!
I have 9 RIR hens that are about 9-10 weeks old. I have one that is soooooo stinking sweet and cuddly and calm. However, when I was holding her last night, her skin felt pretty warm...
Thank you so much for your feedback! I definitely want to make sure they are big enough to handle him. He is running around humping soccer balls and any other thing he can find so at almost 2 years old, I think he's completely frustrated that he's not had any ladies around. LOL!
Hello all.
I have a move in rooster (Rhode Island Red) that I have been taking care of for a little under a year. I would guess that he is probably getting close to two years old. I have 9 5-6 week old RIR chicks. I have a fully closed in coop and am almost done building their run. They...
He comes close to me a lot and as you can tell in his photo I posted, he has a beautiful red comb, clear orange eyes, and I've seen plenty of his poopand it's normal. Would he not be showing symptoms of that now if he had something?
Thank you sooooo much! I think so too. I am absolutely in LOVE with the metallic looking teal on the tips of his cape feathers and his tail plummage! I'm a dog person. Never in a zillion years did I think I'd love chickens just as much. LOL!
Thank you so much. This past Friday when he nipped at my adult son and was doing his little dance to both of us, my son was able to catch him. I took him from my son and knelt down on the ground with Colonel between my knees and held him down for a few minutes. He was able to claw the ground to...
So I have a "move in" rooster that started hanging out in my yard around a year old or just under. I started to take care of him because no one else was and he sort of adopted me over time. He was skittish at first but over the last year or so he has gotten to the point that he would take...
Wow, you are all soooo incredibly helpful! I am sooo glad I found this site and joined! Hopefully with all of the awesome advice, I'll be a good chicken mommy in the end. I've been feeding Dumor Chick starter but now I need to look and see the protein and calcium levels in it. It seems like...
So aside from chick feed while the girls I have are young, what should I give them if scratch is a treat and layer feed is only for when they are laying? Also, how do I handle feeding my one rooster if laying feed is a burden on his kidneys? They will all eventually be living in the same space...
Hello. I did a search for my question but didn't find what I was looking for. This is my first post outside of my intro post so please move or delete this if I am posting in the wrong place, or if I am asking something that has already been answered despite me not being able to find that...
A couple of mine are acting like teenagers now. Haha!
I also noticed some of their grown up feathers look to be coming in! They are the prettiest deep rusty red color! So so pretty!
I am too it seems but I also started using rice hulls which soak up moisture better but I'm thinking because of it's fine texture, it's just making that part work. I believe I'll probably go back to pine shavings. At least until they are bigger. It's easier to see the poop in those too! :)
