RIR pullet, one week old, Brockport, NY

I was fostering 2 weak chicks and one passed. Can anyone take one (healthy now) Rhode Island Red week-old pullet? Located between Brockport and Hilton, NY.

    Duckling aspirated

I have a 2 week old pekin duckling that I have been nursing back from a leg injury. He's been making great progress and I put him in a very shallow tub of water a few times to help him strengthen the bad leg. Last night, he dunked his head twice and I think he's aspirated. He was fine when I put...

2 week-old duckling may have aspirated. What can I do?

Finding a blanket that fits over my donkey's belly

Viggo is my 15 year old mini donkey and has a good-sized belly. I've tried Tough-1 mini blankets and they just don't come down far enough on his sides. The biggest problem is that they are constantly shifting to one side. I've used the single and crossed surcingle style, a tail strap, and...

What are good supplements or treats for a hen that needs a boost?

I have a one-year-old leghorn hen, Gumby. She had severe wry neck as a hatchling and didn't get treated until she was about a week old. She overcame the wry neck with Poultry Cell given by eyedropper for several weeks, but she is stunted, has balance and strength issues and has developed a...

    Chick has no eyeballs

I took in a 3 or 4 day old ISA Brown pullet that has no eyeballs. Does anyone have experience with a blind chick and is there any hope for her? Or should she be euthanized. I have the ability to give her lots of TLC and she has a same age companion, but if there's no chance for her having any...

Recurrence of wry neck with egg laying

Gumby Leghorn was severely wry necked from a hatchling. After weeks of Vitamin E supplementation and TLC, she overcame it and is now with my other 2 pullets. Looking at her you wouldn't know she ever had a problem. At 5 and 1/2 months (Dec. 10), she began laying and has has laid a perfect egg...

Corrugated plastic roof panels over cattle panel run

I am wondering if anyone has used corrugated roofing panels on a curved surface of a run. Here is pic of what I mean, only I want to use the clear plastic panels: How did you attach the panels to the wire frame? Did the panels last a long time or crack? Did they hold up to high winds?

    Mystery pullet

This is Liesl, now 6 months old. She arrived in a box of barred rock pullet chicks from a hatchery, she was pale grey with a faint yellow spot on top of her head. My slightly educated guess is Sapphire Olive Egger, since she lays olive eggs. Also, what type would you call her comb?

    Booted bantam rooster, western NY

5 month old porcelain booted bantam (I was recently informed that he is not a d'uccle, as I had been calling him). I am in Clarkson, west of Rochester, NY, and willing to drive him a few hours to a good, safe home.

    Security light to deter predators?

Does anyone use a motion-detector security light outside their coop to frighten off predators? I want to put solar powered lights on mine to cover the areas where a potential threat would come from. I tried a cheap one that, of course, didn't work right, so I'm looking for recommendations for a...

    Porcelain d'uccle roosters

In March, I took in 2 young chicks that couldn't stand on their own. Well, they made it and both turned out to be roosters. I have a small coop and would rather not not crowd them, so I am searching for someone who can give them a safe forever home. They are very well-mannered and gentle. I am...

Electric fence just paid for itself

I recently built my first run/coop. I'm fairly confident it's predator-proof on it's own, but I put 3 strands of hotwire around it as added insurance. The other night I woke to some godawful screaming. Turns out it was a fox getting shocked and then running off. Needless to say, I highly...

Wry neck chick has bad reaction to drinking

I have a one week old leghorn pullet with wry neck. She has improved slowly with TLC and water from an eyedropper. She will eat on her own, but any time water touches her beak, she literally collapses. She was given water from an eyedropper from the beginning when she was already prone. Once she...

    Help with gender, please.

I'm fairly new to keeping chickens and no expert at determining gender. I'm fostering 2 cochin bantams and would like your opinions on their gender. They are 5 1/2 weeks old. Thanks in advance, Mary Ellen Chick #1: Chick #2: #1 on bottom #2 on top
