Thanks vall! I will work on getting better pictures. The one in the original post is actually the best one in my album currently because they were standing still while they were still in the box. 😆 Now that you mention it, the one on the bottom looks exactly like a pearl fee that belonged to the...
Howdy, I picked up 4 new quail hens a while back from a local farm. They gave me a "backyard mix" of various colors. I have only raised regular browns and whites so far so I'm not 100% sure what I have (even with researching online). I think the golden one in the middle might be Italian? Also...
Hi everyone! I'm currently watching over my 4-day-olds. They are from my third incubation attempt ever, and this current generation is the first time I've incubated eggs from my own backyard. I noticed yesterday that one of them was a lot smaller than the others. She's barely any bigger than the...
Once again, I'm a first time quail owner and my first generation flock is now a few months old. It's definitely been a learn-as-I-go process but one thing I'm confused about is worming. My quails live on the ground with a deep litter system and I know for certain they are eating all the critters...
Like everyone else said, the smell isn't bad as long as you keep things clean. My coturnix quails are raised outdoors on the ground using a deep litter system, which I consider to be the most manageable system for my situation. I'm also in a desert climate, btw. I'm pretty sure my quails prefer...
Yes! I know lots of people who have given quail chicks a little bit of honey in water for a bit of extra energy. Organic or raw honey is probably best.
Same thing happened to me when I brought home some new hens! I was told they were great layers but I didn't have any eggs after the first two days or so. For us, it took a week until we started getting eggs everyday.
Mine love digging! I am raising them on the ground, which started off flat until they started digging little holes. It's great because I'm using the deep litter method, and my birds do a fantastic job of turning their bedding. They love their hiding places, too. If you're an avid beer drinker...
My dog is obsessed with my quails! But he likes to play rough and he could easily kill a tiny quail when he thinks he's just playing. He checks on them when he goes outside, and that's about as close as he can get with their current setup.
