I've not had any luck in detering foxes or racoons. They won't stop
I trap and shoot. Usually we'll see predators snooping at night and then I set traps. Other than keeping my birds locked up, it's been my only successful option.
Thank you.
Please excuse duplicate reply and poor use of the platform.
Grateful for all the support and feedback. I think we're doing all we can to help her.
Thank you. I'm 3 days into this regimen.
Doesn't seem to be helping but don't want to change treatment midstream. Was considering ACV but most seem to recommend miconizole for 7 days.
Syringe feeding plain yogurt with free access to water. She drinks regularly. Adding rooster booster but she...
Been treating a 2 year old hen for sour crop. 3rd day, not seeing any improvement.
I've been giving 1/2" of miconizole 2x daily.
Plain yogurt 2-3 times daily as she will tolerate.
Mostly plain water some with rooster booster.
Don't think I should change treatment but she's not getting...
I've got a Black Star hen, about 1.5 years old. Been healthy and laid eggs until recently. She molted and looks healthy. Eats, roosts, forages.
She started a strange behavior of backing up. Almost looks like a stalking behavior.
I read about wry neck but don't think that's an issue...
Hi. We live on 12 rural acres . 6 birds that free range during the day
Secure run and coop but try to keep predators out of the yard.
I've had two chickens killed by predators in 3 years.
Good luck. Hard cold is tough. I don't leave them inside long because it's too much of a shock for them to go from being to warm to back out in the cold. Mine go in and out of coop when cold. I use blink camera to keep an eye on their behavior.
Too much rock for me to be able to dig trench for hardware wire around coop/run. I used 16" wire shelving laid flat around everything. Pinned down with long garden staples. Tied to hardware cloth that is vertical on outside of run. Shelving is not cheap but so far this has not been breached.
If he's stressed inside, I'd put him back out. I move mine into garage for an hour when they get too cold...lethargic, not eating treats etc. Usually complaining to go back out in an hour or so. Warm feed mush, Gatorade, electrolytes, yogurt, scrambled eggs. I don't mess with frostbite unless...
I'm interested in your oil filled space heater solution. Really trying to avoid adding heat in coop but a few birds were stressed this morning after cold blowing night. Just want to help them keep chill off. Any heater recommendations for an oil filled unit?
I put mine in the yard at the closest point to the woods/trees. I don't want any kind of attractant near the coop. I also stake the trap to the ground. I've had them shake the bait out of the trap. Cheap canned cat food works well. Also caught skunks that way.
