Thank you all for the comments. I was afraid it might be frost bite, but it's weird they showed signs almost two weeks after the super cold weather. I don't think the coop is damp at all, but I will go in and take notice just for that. You are the best!!
Hello,
I'm starting to look at the next round of chicks for my flock and wanted to get a couple of Brahmas. Honestly, I just think they are cool looking. However, we have extremes in weather. The description says they do well with cold weather, but what about extreme heat? I mean, we had almost...
Hello,
I've just come home from a long trip and my leghorns have discoloring on their combs. It's either pale or it's pale going into black. In looking at the diseases, mine don't look like what I've seen...so don't really know what I'm looking at. I also thought maybe frostbite. We did have...
Yeah, I was excited to have her as different...and then got into my own head on maybe something was wrong. Seriously, she behaves healthy as all get out. If anything, the others have a hard time keeping up with her. But boy she looks a hot mess! Thank you.
So, I have 12 chicks that are 10 weeks old and one of them just looks a mess. She's half the size of the others. Still doesn't have feathers underneath and what feathers she has are all over the place. She isn't acting sick as a matter of fact she's really active. The other birds aren't picking...
How did this go? I have a predator proof part of my run that I've marked off for a brooder. I have it all set with little cubby type things for them to get under, saw in a very old post. But with this rain and the sudden drop in temperature, I was wondering what you thought. I wasn't going to do...
So, I had a broody hen and decided to let her sit on the eggs. Meanwhile, I didn't realize other hens were adding to her clutch and it took us too long to get a separate area built for her. A lot of the eggs broke and I didn't do such a great job marking and candling the eggs. There was one that...
I just introduced a new rooster last week and he's working his way through the pecking order. And the last two days he's starting to do his "thing". So, my question is that it looks like he's not in the right place. I know he'll figure it out, he's 6 months old. Pretty docile and a real beaut...
I was right there with you Sara, I was thinking I needed to find a way to feed my roo something different. Thanks everyone for the clarification on butcher date. I just added a new roo to the flock....
I only see mucus and she keeps squatting like trying to lay an egg. There's no sickness that I can see, and she is actually up and eating with the flock. They are on scratch and peck layer feed and have access to oyster shell always and sometimes egg shells. I don't think calcium is the problem...
Hi Everyone. This girl (Leghorn) has been laying weird eggs lately, with ridges and then she's been dropping them wherever instead of in the nesting box like normal. Today she had this going on. Is she maybe going egg bound or is this an infection? She does tend to frighten much easier than all...
Maybe. I dont know. I read other posts and feel like maybe I will go thru another few days of soaks and see what happens. New chicken momma so questioning myself.
I have a girl that has what looks like bumble for over a month. I use to soak it, clear the infection and wrap it. It went down and started to look good. Now it's all puffy again, but no puss and it's more of a scab...really nothing there. So I don't know what to do....should I keep soaking...
