    Ancona colour help?

I'm assuming blue as well for that reason, but I haven't got a good eye for it yet. Lavender and blue are so hard for me! One of our hens was stubbornly broody so we have her some eggs and she hatched them all and is a great mama! She was a little startled the first time they went swimming...

    Ancona colour help?

Hey gang! I have a hard time differentiating between blue/lilac/lavender for some reason. Can someone lend a hand and let me know what you'd call the coloring for the lightest duckling in the photo? Dad is a Blue Ancona/Swedish mix that has some chocolate feathers. Mom is either a purebred...

    Preemie duckling

#1 has been joined by #2 now. Both seem to be doing well! (#1 still looks a little smooshed from mom sitting on him).

Yes the belly is looking much better! He's more active now too, hoping we are out of the woods now.

    Preemie duckling

Thanks for checking in! Hes not super active, but still trucking along. Syringed a little more egg yolk/sugar water and he perked up a little started rustling around. Another egg under mom has started to hatch, so maybe a sibling will get him going a bit.

    Preemie duckling

Thanks for the help! Got him wrapped up with a heat pad and he seems comfortable for now. Belly seems nearly closed but I didn't want to wipe the goop off incase it's attached to something.

    Preemie duckling

Hi friends! I had a Swedish/Ancona duckling start to hatch a few days early. It's the moms first time and she smooshed the shell overnight. Today the baby isn't super active and I don't think the belly has closed properly. I'm syringing egg yolk and sugar water which is helping but I'm not...

    Help with a premie?

The little premie made it through the night! They've joined their siblings in the brooder now and are stronger than I thought they'd be. Thanks for the help!

    Help with a premie?

Thank you! I used the vitamin water as it seemed a little better and mixed it with egg yolk. Got a couple drops in the little one and took him out of the egg as everything was cleared up. Staying in the bator for the night, hopefully have good news in the morning. Thanks for the help!

    Help with a premie?

I could only find Gatorade and vitamin water. Is one better than the other?

    Help with a premie?

Hey friends! I think I had a cold spot in the incubator as 2 eggs in one area did not hatch. One was super tiny and dead inside when I opened it (as it was smelly). For the other egg I put a safety hole in the air cell and saw some movement. After leaving them for a couple days, I checked it...

    First duckling has arrived!

First baby has gone into the brooder as they were messing with the 2 eggs trying to hatch. Zooming around and peeping up a storm!

    First duckling has arrived!

My first ever duckling has arrived! Very talkative little Ancona baby has finally launched itself and is looking for their siblings. Hoping to have others joining them when I wake up 🤞

    Incubating

I think 4 times a day is good, and then you stop turning for the last 3 days before hatch.

    Incubating

I ran mine overnight to make sure it was holding the temp/humidity and the turner was working. Once that all checked out, the eggs went in. All was well until I took the lid off for half an hour to mist/cool the eggs, then the humidity just never seemed to read accurately again. Once my...

    Duck egg starting to pip!

Stubborn little fellers! I opened the pip on the first one a bit to check in since there wasn't any progress since yesterday morning. Duckling is vocal and chewing a bit, so put them back in place to keep absorbing after putting coconut oil on the membrane.

    Incubating

I was topping mine up every morning as the humidity dipped over night. For hatching now I've put a wet wash cloth on the bottom after taking out the turner as well as a wet sponge. I found it hard to keep it above 50%, but this is my first time using it. My turner worked, I think it rotated...

    Incubating

I have the same incubator and having the same issue. It seemed fine until the first day I removed the lid to cool/mist my duck eggs, and it hasnt been correct since. I did not calibrate it before use (rookie mistake, it seems) but got a secondary hygrometer/therm with probes as a back up for now.

    Duck egg starting to pip!

Still no hatchers yet. The first guy is peeping and I can see them moving around in the shell. 24hrs since they pipped. Today is the official due date, hoping the others will join in soon.
