Does anyone else herd their chickens?

Not me, but I've seen a sheepdog round hens up unsupervised! They learn their job so well they seem able to do it with other animals.

Comment by 'Doriss' in article 'Chicken Toys: Why They're Important & How To Provide Them!'

Hi, I'm worried about wood ash. Just getting it wet can cause very serious, caustic burns. (Nothing to do with hot wood.)

I think we have egg drop syndrome. Any help appreciated

Vertical transmission is from hen to chick or egg. But there's also lateral transmission from chicken to chicken. EDS shows no signs of illness, which distinguishes it from a whole load of other infectious diseases that lead to decreased egg production, thin-shelled, or shell-less eggs. Since...

Thanks for this. I hadn't noticed the protein content was low. Might get some dried BSFL.

    Watery Quail Poop

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, my mobile has stopped sending images, but it's a good-quality layer feed - Marriage's, in fact. There's only one issue with that, and it's that they don't really rush to gobble it up. That's why I remove all the other 'nibbles' at night so there's only the...

    Watery Quail Poop

Hello, they are button quail. What do you mean by 'setup'? They have a small bit of millet spray and general ground-bird complete feed+egg biscuit in the early afternoon, then quail layers pellets (complete feed) at night. I read somewhere that they should have fresh greens every day. What's...

1 Year Old Wyandotte Can't Hold her head up suddenly- UPDATED with happy ending 😍

Illness uses up a lot of energy for birds, and a lot of them become too weak to hold their head up. Any sign of a chest infection that could be sending infected material to her brain and causing a stroke condition? (Has she been shaking her head, for instance?)

    Watery Quail Poop

My quail has been passing diarrhea for about a month. Often, it is almost clear. This causes her to try and consume it, like water, so I'm worried that any infection is just going round and round. Her companion hen eats the same diet. Both consume large amounts of lettuce and water, but only the...

    Quail very sick!!!

Just what I thought. Sounds as if the quail has been walking on a surface that damages its foot in some way.

    Coturnix Quail is broody!

A bit worried that adults walk on each other, and whether there will be enough space to prevent chicks getting crushed.

How should I handle baby quail to get them used to me?

I've read they like their throat and chest stroked.

    Button Quails Tank vs. Cage

Mine My two never stop eating, and need cleaning-out once a day without fail. I leave the top slightly ajar for ventilation but this year, having failed to keep them in the transparent box with net during a heatwave - they escaped! - I'm going for a steel TV cabinet with quail-sized-mesh doors...
