Hello, I have one of my Australorps who in the last 24 hrs has developed a swollen area in her cloacal area or has been injured by one of the other hens (no rooster). I have not treated her in any way, but have isolated her with food and water. I have observed her drinking. No other hen is...
I've watched when I let them free range and don't notice anyone being aggressive, but someone says they will act differently when being watched--don't we all. :-) I've added dry Iams cat food at 32% protein. Have contacted our local agricultural lab and they said to bring in a fecal sample on...
Yes, still laying. Got 6 eggs this morning. Feeding Purina Organic Pullet Crumbles 16% protein. Also, treats of pumpkin, apple, mealworms. Have added Iams dry cat food at 32% protein to see if that helps per some advice.
About 10 days ago one of my 9 month old hens had massive feather loss in her tail and now most all of them show some degree of loss. No rooster. Ideas?
Reg feed is Purina Organic Layer Crumbles. The only other things that have changed in the last 10 days that this has been happening is I’ve fed them pumpkin to make munch on daily and I put a 250 W infrared heat lamp in coop at night because it’s been in the 20s
No loss of feathers around neck. I have Coop, area under coop and run with 12.25 sq feet for each of 11 chickens. Have a Flock Block they've been pecking. Feeding lots of mealworms. Not sure what to do if someone is pecking.
Egg Laying Australorps have lost most of their tail feathers. Plymouth Rocks and Orpingtons are fine. Is this unique to this breed or is there something lacking in their diet or something I need to do for them? No rooster in the flock. Thanks.
I am using a 250 Watt Infrared heat lamp to add a little heat to a small coop. Will the infrared light also stimulate egg laying in the winter or must it be white light? thanks.
As per some recommendations here I bought Farm Innovators 250 Watt Ice-Chaser Multi-Use Utility Deicer and it is working so far. A little pricy at $50.00+ but they gave me an extra year warranty so we'll see how it goes. It's far too early to be in the 20s most nights here in Virginia!!
Need a heater to prevent plastic waterers from freezing in Virginia--lows in 20s most nights in winter. Recommendations? Internal deicer for inside plastic waterer or plate underneath? Thanks.
Thank you. I was able to clean the sores and put triple antibiotic on them. They look like they have begun to heal--not bleeding or really raw. She's been hiding under the coop, poor gal.
