Close door on a cold night?

Oh I don’t mind doing that at all! I just wondered if ventilation should take precedence over a low of 37. The coop is entirely inside a run that we WAY overbuilt (erring on the side of caution) seriously it’s like Fort Knox. We may have raccoons or foxes but I’ve not seen one in the 16 years...

Close door on a cold night?

I have and that’s what is making me rethink misters! The run is covered and they have adequate shade (I added two shade screens for the early morning sun, which I’m moving as the season changes and the direction shifts) By 1pm it’s all shaded by the woods on the west side of the run. Great...

Close door on a cold night?

Yeah we dealt with rough heat just a few weeks ago, triple digit heat index 🥵 I put ice blocks in the water bucket, electrolytes, frozen treats and a fan. Cold temps are more rare than awful heat in my part of Florida. We want to install a misting system by spring but I’ve been reading it...

Close door on a cold night?

Thank you so much! This is our first flock so we’re a tad paranoid of doing right by them, I also happen to be an expert worrier 😉 it’s windy out and I don’t detect any drafts in the coop so we’re going to leave the door open, and I’ll check them tonight just to se sure they look comfy!

Close door on a cold night?

Hi! We have the large snap-lock coop for the girls, which is entirely enclosed in a predator proof run. They are 12 weeks old. We have left the coop door open 24/7 due to mild NW Florida temps. We are supposed to hit 37 degrees tonight and I don’t know if I should close the door for the night...

    Newbie chook mom

Thanks! I’m trying to stick to the ‘less than 10% of regular feed’ plan, I’m more concerned about their health than making them like me for snacks lol. The coop is totally contained in the run so they can come out as soon as it gets light enough for them, and after one day of actually placing...
