Speckled Sussex - Breeding to the SOP

I meant to add a caption and see if anyone in the thread thinks my guy looks ok to breed. I think he's handsome, but I'm not sure if he's completely correct. He is 7 months old.

    BIELEFELDER vs ORPINGTON .bickering thread.

Honestly these are the two breeds I'm keeping & it's a toss up.

    ID for Bielefelder crosses

Thanks for sharing this. My friend just gave me the exact thing: eggs to hatch from a bielefelder roo. Hens are also bielefelder, buffs, legbar and 2 ee eggs. Just hatched them last night and waiting for them to dry off. Was wondering if any of yours were able to be sexed at hatch.

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

So far I just plan to sell them locally. I'd consider mailing, but I would have to see the cost to ship and if it would be worth it. I'm doing some fantastic (imo!) crosses tho and I'm pretty sure they will sell at a good price.

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

Oh yes! If you have the time and the space to do it! Plus I find it exciting (because I'm working on some fun crosses!) and satisfying. As it stands, I have about 40ish chickens. I sold enough pullets this summer to pay for those plus the chickens I still have. (I bought day old chicks and...

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

Haha that's awesome! I am glad you built your Fort Knox for them - so worth it!! It's almost the end of my first year keeping chickens and I went whole hog. It's been fun and I'm really excited for Spring, as I'll be doing as much hatching as I can! Happy New Year!

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

That sounds nice. My situation is much like that of the original poster: Concrete slab in a barn. I use this large "coop" as a growing out place for baby chicks. It's fully enclosed, and about 10x15 so quite a big space. I think I will just settle for barn lime and deep pine shavings. I think...

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

So basically you just have to choose the lesser of 2 evils.lol I'm sure they put moisture pads down for home slabs, but I'm betting they didn't do it for a 40 year old barn lol Hmm I am wondering if bare concrete is more or less easy to be sanitized than the garage type sealant??

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

I have a question: if you seal the concrete, and the water is coming from the ground, will the sealant bubble up? Thanks.

Deep bedding on concrete is damp

I have almost the same setup with a coop in a barn. I started reading this bc I've also had damp spots on days when it seems like there isn't tons of rain. I use a shovel or poo rake and turn it all and move it around. I wanted to add that the front half of our barn does have some of those...
