Yes it’s completely normal. I also noticed that chicks with a harder time hatching do take longer to perk up. My Silkies usual are running around by the 3rd/ 4th day

Thank you 🙏 I wasn’t sure if it would be considered blue or not. I was able to find a breeding chart for splash (BBS) but not paint breeding. Curious if the out comes are similar.

I was worried about Mareks too. I had each one of my silkie chicks from the same breeder ( 4 of them ) go through this spring. It took about 2-3 days for improvement. They went through it almost one after the other. Now I treat all chicks water a couple times a week. Good luck

It could be a B vitamin deficiency. I use Rooster Booster brand B vitamin. You can dose the chick individually and also treat the water for the other chicks as a preventative.

I used the kiddie pool set up last spring to raise 8 Silkies. They stayed in it from 1 week to about 12 weeks by the time the coop was finished. https://pin.it/1L1ZR8U

They look to be about the right size for the bantam eggs. Mine look similar at 14 days.

What do you use to hobble the legs with ? The vet wrap I tried isn’t working very well. Thanks

Just wanted to pop back in an give an update for anyone still interested. I wasn’t able to borrow or find a second hand bator within a few days so I decided to just go for it. From the initial set date 3/7/23 = a dozen eggs First egg hatched 3/19/23 ( after 13 days in the incubator ) and last...

This one is now a week old. These 2 paints hatched Sunday/ Monday. Then today the last chick in the bator hatched. It looks like it’s drying out to be a lite silver color. I plan to get updated pictures of the younger 3 in a couple days.

The black plastic is the leg of the brooder plate. Was that what you were referring to ?

I am not an expert by any means. I believe the white with spots would be a paint. Not completely sure on the other. My last hatch I got a couple questionable ones. Think they are going to have to grow out more. Do you know the breeding on these ?

Adorable !!! I have a showgirl hen with similar coloring. Mine is more silver based. I’ve been trying to figure out some breeding possibilities as well. Thank you for sharing and starting this thread! I’ve caught the breeding bug. Just started hatching out my own chicks. So addictive!!
