Hello BYC! I have a 4 year old Rhode Island Red who was attacked and targeted by 3 roosters for about a month. Unbeknownst to me, she had a open fracture on her leg and it was about 7 weeks until I found out and the bone seems to have been fixed but is infected it seems. She doesn’t eat or lay...
Hello BYC community! I am looking at buying a Dark Brahma male chick and raising him as a breeding rooster. I do have one question of concern: Will his size and weight possibly hurt my more average sized girls? (Rhode Island Reds, Anconas, Buff Orpingtons). Thank you!
Hello BYC community! I have a fully matured hen and I am confused if she only a Dominique with no other breed crosses. You see, in the image below, she has a single comb. All of my other Dominiques have rose combs. Is there something going on here?
Hello BYC community! I have a girl that has a patch of feathers missing. She is rarely mated with so I don’t think it’s a possibility. I already believed that she was molting, but I want you guys to have some input as well. Thanks!
Hello BYC community! Here in Georgia, red foxes are a protected species. However, they often pay my chickens a not-so-friendly visit and actually killed my only rooster today. How can I keep them pests away while it is illegal to kill them?
I just spotted a fox and decided to keep being my girls into the run and coop for safety measures. They suddenly keep making this noise and it sounds alarming. It goes on continuously for 30 sec - 1 min. Any ideas as to what she is saying?
I have a chick that has almost hatched. It has occasional movement and it is pecking out of its shell pretty frequently. There is no movement in the egg currently, although sometimes it bumps its egg a slight bit. Should I be concerned? Is it alive?
Hello all! I am going to have some brand-new babies In a few days, and even more in a couple of weeks. We are in the process of selling some roosters from our first hatch. How can I help prevent any chicks from injury/death while figuring out our 3 other roos? Thanks, BYC folks.
With the recent weather seemingly getting more and more extreme, are chickens afraid of thunder, lightning, or hail? I would love to know to maybe help better their coop.
I have a Welsummer roo and I love his pretty feathers. What are some more breeds with colorful feathers? Primarily talking hens, but would love some rooster ideas too.
I had two ducks, unfortunately a raccoon killed the older sister. I believe my littler one witnessed the whole thing, and I found big sis mauled this morning. I’m in the process of reinforcing the coop. We ordered four more Pekin ducklings tonight. How can I keep my other girl happy and healthy...
