    Emergency! Bent Knees/Joints

Thanks! I'm giving both a vitamin and mineral supplement. I've been feeding my own organic diet, so I have to review my ingredients and figure out where I've gone wrong. My hens are laying nicely, although about a week ago there was one egg with a thin shell. I've read that can be normal...

    Emergency! Bent Knees/Joints

Sorry, no pic. It's the knee joint bent the wrong way...the joints seem a tiny bit swollen...I've read some other sites and am trying bird vitamins I was able to get at my local F&S. They didn't have anything specifically for chickens. The chick is getting around slowly and wants to eat...

    Emergency! Bent Knees/Joints

My three-week old silver-laced wyandotte pullet has legs bent the wrong way--almost like a knock-kneed person. Legs bending in towards each other. She is one of five chicks and I removed her into an isolated cage for now. I'm not sure if a splint or vitamins are in order? Thanks, robmcsched

Ok, looks like the roo has to go and this is my first time!

Thanks to all who sent links! We decided to do the deed tonight--and it went really well! All the websites were really helpful, and the feathers came out so easy we were shocked. We followed instructions and had the water about 150 degrees F for a good scald...the feathers came out easily and...

Thanks for all the responses! I'll check out the links and let you know how it goes...the dog was here, first--so no mean roosters allowed! R

Ok, looks like the roo has to go and this is my first time!

Our lovely Americauna roo attacked my five lb poodle yesterday...three times. He's also moved menacingly towards small children who don't understand the process of showing the roo who is boss. He totally whooped my dog--and could injure him given enough time and a little spur growth... Our...

    Rooster Attacked dog!

Well, this is our first experience with a rooster, and he's been getting gradually more aggressive. We didn't even know he was a rooster until about eight weeks ago...from what I've read, it's possible yours won't get as aggressive, especially if your dogs keep him in line. The problem with my...

    Rooster Attacked dog!

Thanks for the reply! I'm giving it a cooling off period, before we make a final decision. We really liked our roo--love to hear him crow...but if he's going to threaten the dog and small children, he'll have to go. I'm trying the garden hose therapy tomorrow, when I have some time off...I'll...

    Rooster Attacked dog!

Help...my Americauna roo attacked our very small, five lb. poodle today--three times...each time we yelled, flapped our arms and chased him off. Now, he's leaving the dog alone, but keeping a wary eye on us. The last attack he surprised us by running full speed across the yard to go after the...

No eggs yet but lots of mounting (normal?)

Thanks for all the notes! My two pullets finally became hens yesterday when the laid their first eggs. This is my first time and you would think I had a goose that laid golden eggs! Glad to have read all the posts--looks like the roos start mounting prior to egg-laying--I just didn't know...

    Vinegar

Be sure to use only stainless, glass or chrome with the Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). Plastic and galvanized steel or aluminum with the ACV will leach toxic stuff into the water. I belong to an a yahoo organic chickens group and everyone swears it keeps them healthy by warding off disease and...

No eggs yet but lots of mounting (normal?)

Ok, glad to find these posts--we have two pullets and one rooster--purchased in March as chicks--well, the chicks have been gettin' laid but they ain't yet a layin'. I'm so anxious for eggs, this is my first time! I was wondering why they hadn't started layin' yet--so I'm guessing they just...

    Chicken Behavior

Hi, new to this forum...have three baby chicks and am wondering how much to handle them and things like: How to pet a chicken? Do they like the back of the head, neck gently rubbed (it seems to calm them, but do they actually like this?). Basic handling questions. Also, how soon can I bathe...
