    Dogs attacked twice

I lost 2 hens and a rooster the other day to some dogs. I'm guessing they Belong to some one in the neighborhood down the road. I went out on the porch and fired a few shots out of my 22 to scare them off and kind of warn them not to come back. Then tonight my wife called me at work and told me...

Quote: Once I brought my 6 hens and one roo home the day I got them, I was in. My wires car because it gets better gas milage then my truck. The rooster took a big dump on the back seat. I was going about 70 mph down 65 north. I heard the dump before I smelt it. I'm glad I had a sheet over the...

    My dumb chickens

Good idea with the light. I will have to try that. They use to sleep in the coop every night when I first got them but decided they like it outside better I guess. I will have to gather them up and stuff them in there.

Quote: Cedar is oilier than pine and produces an odor that can cause severe respiratory ailments in young chicks. I don't know how much effect it has on the larger chickens' respiratory system, but I would just stick to pine to be safe. I use wheat straw and haven't had any problems.
