Ever have a hen lose a full wing?

I have a hen that was grabbed by an Eagle on the right side but she was then dropped. Had a pretty good wound on the right and the right wing drooped. Took care of the wound and it healed up, the wing continued to droop. This week I found the wing on the floor of the coop, wing joint looked...

    Anyone use GQF Brooder trays?

If you use them, I realize the chicks can only stay in it for likely two weeks, but as fresh hatched, how many would you put in a tray max? Paperwork says you can put 100, seems that would be pretty crowded, I was thinking more along the lines of 50 per tray for two weeks, then to a large...

Dark Eggs Daily shutting down for 2012

Got an e mail from Dark Eggs Daily yesterday stating that due to unforseen issues, they will not ship for the remainder of 2012. If you had an order placed prior to 1-26-12 they will honor that shipment. I know they had problems last year but at least this year they recognize they have a...

Anyone have review on Howard Brand incubators (China Made)

Just wondering if anyone has ever ordered on of these and how they worked. Price seems low but the shipping would kick you where it really hurts. If anyone has one, let me know how you like it's operations and if you've had problems, I'd like to know also.

Hatch day was Sunday, should I open the hatcher to get chicks?

Hatch day was sunday, had a number hatch during the day. Now I set 5 in the bottom of the sportsman 1550 hatcher just so I could watch them, all 5 hathed. There are 19 eggs in the top tray, I can't see how many have hatched but when I shine a light in, I see chicks moving. Would it be safe to...

    Is this one a BR?

Just wondering what this one is, I'm guessing Barred Rock but then again I always lost money in Vegas so my guessing sucks. Everything else in the brooder I can ID but this little gal has me a little confused. Blurred out the edges of the pic so there would be no confusion, the chick in...

Anyone use a sportsman incubator? Comments on them?

Friends are thinking of co-oping into a sportman incubator. I'm a bit hesitant, especially from the size of it when I doubt we'll do that large a hatch except in the spring. Anyway, just looking for pros and cons from anyone who's used one. If enough pros, I'll likely be persuaded to fall in...

My new Fuzzy Butts arrived! Multiple pics

Ordered from McMurray, all 75 arrived safe and sound. Just over 36 hours old and none have passed, all seem happy. On arrival I gave them grow gel and am supplementing the water with Sugar and Quick Chick. This is the home built brooder I have, the extra hanging light is because I'm paranoid...

    Thanks goes to McMurray Hatchery

I ordered 25 chicks (must have hit refresh 3 times as I ended up with 75 must be chicken math) Anway, PO called this morning to come get them. Picked up the loudly chirping chicks and rushed home, all healthy and alive. To ship from Iowa to Alaska with no fatalities at this time of the year is...

    Hello from Wasilla Alaska!

28 chickens running around in Wasilla Alaska with another 75 to arrive in two weeks. I've got Leghorns, RIR, EE, SLW, Anconas, and a few polish. Chicken math was never something I could do so 75 more should get the hen house a bit warmer in winter. :cdPLus the dropping are like gold here in the...

does this appear to be a molted chicken?

This hen is 10 months old, no predators have been terrorizing them, life is treating them well. No changes in feed, weather sure has warmed up though. Flock of 30 birds, this is the only one appearing like this, one other is losing all neck feathers. I just didn't think they'd molt at 10 months...
