Should I turn the heat lamp on tonight?

unless you have a delicate breed like a serama, if they are feathered out they will be fine. Mine are about the same age as yours and I am not using a heat lamp for them tonight. I have EE, W leghorns and 1 FBC Marans. They are predicting a low of 39 here in Georgia.

    Taming a chicken

One thing I do when I have a nervous chicken is I stay close by when i feed them. After awhile hunger gets the best of them and they always join the others. Every day they get more used to me and relax a little more. Some never really get tame like the others, but at least they do not go crazy...

    production black= california grey?

Does any know if Ideals production black is the same as the california grey? It would be nice to find something that lays like a leghorn, but a little calmer. Thinking of trying some, but I know very little about them. Ideals drawing looks like a barred leghorn to me. If anyone has any...

    Heat lamp

If you have a hardy breed like RIR, BR etc. then chicks at 3 weeks are tougher than most people think. Unless the temps are down in the 30's I do not use the heatlamp after 2 weeks. I raise mine in a unheated shed. After 3 weeks mine normally have most of their feathers, so I move them out to...

Has anyone used a Goose and Gander to protect a flock of chickens????

I tried geese with my flock many years ago, but it did not work out at all. They killed two of my chickens before I got rid of them. I raised them with chickens from when they were babies, but as they became adults you could not predict what they would do.

    Cackle Hatchery's RIR's

Hello, Last week I bought some chicks from my local feed store. He said they were RIR from Cackle. When I told him if they came from a big hatchery they would probably be production reds, He told me you can get PR from Cackle, but these was Rhode Island Reds. Last night I checked their website...

    Hello, from NW Ga.

After about a 30 yr. break from having chickens I have a small flock again. I have 9 RIR and 3 Red sex-links chicks that I got from Lawsons feed in Dallas. They ordered all pullets from cackle. I forgot how much fun raising chicks can be. I am glad I found this site. I had chickens for many...
