    Had a 3 y/o hen with black diareah/drainage yesterday.

She was getting around fine. Went to check on her this afternoon and clean her, she was dead. Vent and buttocks full of black dirt/tar sticky substance. No other birds affected. ???Could that have been a vent block/soft shell and mixed with our black dirt. Never saw anything that look like...

Hello. When I go to reply to a quote or worse, multi-quotes, all I see is computer text format language. Unable to see the photo or screen shot of the poster. Makes it very difficult to reply and have it placed in the correct spot and not have extra computer language show up once message is...

Can someone assist with the sex of these EE's, 4th set of photos, thanks again and again....

These photos are mostly for feather sexing if possible. The Roo is Wheaten Ameracauna, hen, blue wyandotte. This is where it gets difficult for me to just go by the comb, since the wyandotte has single row comb and wattles, Am/EE's have pea combs. It may be still too early at 9 weeks to judge...

Cocci in 3 week old chick, started on Sulmet, would like to change to Corid. Is that OK?

I have 14 chicks taken from 2 broody hens 2 weeks ago due to overcrowded pens, weather changes, damp, hot, damp, cold etc. Moved them to inside brooder. Last Friday started seeing bloody stools. Took them off med feed, now on non-med chick feed, started on Sulmet, what I had on hand. Then had...

The Adventures of Rocky and Adriane

This story is true, although slightly corny and humerous! It seems we have had a huge increase of hawk populations of late. It's to the point that in order to free range our birds, I have had to become a human, alive scarecrow with a bamboo cane at hand at all times. The have developed a fly...

Please tell me one of these is not a Roo?

Trying to send pictures of 2 birds. Thinking they are both Roo, what say you?? The white one was supposed to be EE/ Ameracauna and the other one is a cross from a EE/Yellow sex link, don't know for sure on either one. Thanks in advance!

Coopers/Chicken Hawks, they are here and made their attack today!!!

Geez, timely messages and BYC education are about the only weapons we have against SOME predators. I read a few weeks ago about a lady who had an encounter that turned out to be a Cooper's Hawk. We live on 4 acres of wooded land with a branch. We've got several owl species, Osprey's, crows...

?? Blue Wyandotte with slate colored shanks. . .

I was reading on the Wyandotte thread and discovered that the shanks should be yellow. So what now? The man I purchased her from has not proven to me he really studies the breeds he sells/swaps. He owns a feed store and the last time I purchased 2 hens from him they were very sick and died...

EE Roo and 2 EE Hens, what hen(s) can I add to avoid diluted genes/egg

I would like some suggestions as to what hens to add, EE? etc. to enhance the blue/green egg color and potential egg hatching later down the road. Would love to stay in the EE breeds as much as possible. I have a hen sold to me as an Ameracauna, but she's an EE with yellow leggs and lays a...

EE pullet named Julie, not acting very lady like. Pictures.

Hello all, Need help on gender/breed. I picked up Julie, (black and red) around July 4th. Owner said she was EE and all birds in that pen were pullets. A week goes by, I return to pick up another pullet. This time he says they are Americauna/EE's. (?? OK with me either way) I pick up...
