My original celadons were shipped and lost in the mail, I received them after 9 days in transit. 19/36 hatched and thrived. So it can be done. Having said that, I’ve been testing shipment success cross country. The first shipment was less than stellar, but I’ve changed up my feed and I’m hoping...
also I’ve seen pics of people cutting a thin plastic strip, like from those plastic versions of Manila folders and using that in the middle instead of the thick divider it comes with.
My side rolling turners I lock down on day 13, the brinsea I lock down on 14 or 15. It doesn’t seem to make much difference in the brinsea, the side rollers definitely pip more often in the wrong place, the longer I wait to lock down.
If you look in the booklet, it has photos of the pheasant...
I find the option of eating the extras helps keep my numbers manageable, but hubby agreed to one pen of quail, and now I have 5. I can’t risk my only black one out there in the yard, so he and 4 friends are inside until I can breed him, then there’s the indoor cage of double silvers in my living...
Yes, the male must have at least 1 copy too. So if you have a blue laying hen/hens, cross them to an unknown male, and all offspring will be carriers at least. Cross blue laying hens to one of the male carriers, and half will be full celadons and half will be carriers. With males, unless you get...
I traced the free hatching mat they included onto shelf liner, and cut it out. I use the shelf liner and wash it and reuse, instead of the cardboard mats. I also don’t use the paper sponge they provided, you can just cut a regular sponge into pieces that fit. I live in a humid area and don’t...
Italian is funky, 2 Italians don’t always make a manchurian. Sometimes they’ll just be a bit less speckly than Italian. But keep crossing em and in a couple gens you’ll have some nice ones.
I bred my celadon Roos until I had produced 60+ celadon hens and 0 non celadons, before I confidently...
I printed a quail turner like that and I found that many of the larger eggs were not turning. I marked the eggs on various sides so I could see how far they turned. I ended up just putting them 2 per in the original turner. I also have the brinsea ovation 56, whichever model that does all the...
Well it depends what you want, and what the birds carry. If you cross manchurian to roux, Egyptian or scarlet, you can get autumn amber. However the roux gene is sex linked and basically acts recessive in males and dominant in females. So if your roo is carrying roux, and you cross to egyptian...
I’ve been working on snowie celadons, I currently have 1 pearl that is very large and lays blue eggs. My celadons carriers are pearls and Italians that I got from crossing the Myshire snowie mix I received to my celadons. The most difficult part of a celadon project is getting your first full...
