    The Rhodebar thread!

I believe people go for the hatchery lines because they were crossed with heavy production birds to pick up their egg production. I have a breeder that has heritage lines and he warns people that his line produce less eggs so the act of crossing chickens to production, hatchery or crossed lines...

    The Rhodebar thread!

I still am trying to understand the barring. The difference with single and double. Are you looking for more barring, a dilution of the color due to the barring? My picture of course shows my roos. I am taking it that they are single but I really haven't understood enough of the barring to know...

    The Rhodebar thread!

True. I am trying to take my Hambars back to RIR and even there they say that I can get Rhodebar color but might take another 3 to 4 generations to get the autosexing.

    The Rhodebar thread!

That's a tall order. You can read what the original breeders mated to make the first Rhodebars. http://greenfirefarms.com/store/category/chickens/rhodebar/, tells a little about them. I have read some things about even that process might take 4 years in order to get the first line that will look...

    The Rhodebar thread!

I have these 2 hens that are just starting to lay. Less than a year old. So I am taking it that I breed these to the male Hambars and then a female offspring back to him. Would that hopefully, fingers crossed produce both male and female Rhodebars? Bright sun light might not due best judgement...

    The Rhodebar thread!

I guess after reading and looking at pictures I would have to say that what I have are Hambar. I see they are autosexing which I was after but I still was after Rhodebars so I guess I will see if I can sell them. I really only have room for so many chickens and someone has to go. Haven't seen a...

    The Rhodebar thread!

The more I read on these birds the more I wonder. I admit, a lot of people have different thoughts on these birds but it does look like my birds could be Rhodebars if they were a lot darker.I believe I will be starting all over again with a couple pairs from someone else.

    The Rhodebar thread!

I am expecting to buy another pair from someone else to see and compare. You have people all the time that claim they have something and so many can look very similar when looking at a picture of them.

    The Rhodebar thread!

Well, if you are asking me, they were sold as Rhodebars. Most of what I have seen is showing pretty true to color and pictures don't always show the best in color. The only I have hatched turned out to be male and was a solid color chick as a male should have looked. I am battling either...

    The Rhodebar thread!

I've had chicks look like they couldn't walk or was having a problem and have seen it in exotic birds also. I did what I was taught to do when I breed exotics. I laid either some hardware clothe or plastic square cloth that was 1/2" so they had something to grip with. It helps out some of them...

    The Rhodebar thread!

Here's one of my first 2 pairs. I have put one of my Rhode Island Reds with them and will be hatching eggs from her and then will add a hen off her back to Dad which is suppose to bring out a new line with stronger egg laying also. We'll see how well this works but it of course will be later...
