What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

I finally proofed the run today! I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hoping there won’t be any more foot injuries after this. Hopefully I fixed the problem! I haven’t got any pictures, but Agnes scabs are gone and I think her scales are growing back. Jolene has some smaller scabs but her feet are...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

I’ve still been putting only two of the girls in the run, and haven’t been able to modify it yet. Thankfully, they are healing up! The scabs are starting to dry up and peel off. I tried to pull some off, but stopped because the skin underneath is still raw.

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

That’s a good idea. I just need to buy some more, which might not be for a while. I suppose Agnes and Jolene can stay in the coop and the other two can stay in the run during the times they’re not sleeping or out ranging each day. By the time I’m able to safety proof the wire, they should be...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

On the ground next to their feet there is chicken wire and plastic netting that’s staked down. There’s also an area by the fence that’s covered over in chicken wire and there’s bricks covering a rabbit hole. There are no plants other than st augustine and another type of grass. There is a pan...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

At this point, I’m pretty sure it’s something in the coop that’s hurting them or that they’re hurrying themselves on. I left Jolene in the coop today and her wounds look like they’ve healed over into scabs now. I let Agnes out of the run this afternoon and the wounds on her feet seem to have...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

I blocked the part of the fence that sticks out with a brick. I’ve decided to keep Jolene in the coop tomorrow and put the other three in the run. I’ve only removed Jolene’s leg band so far. I will remove and possibly replace the others bands tomorrow. (Oh, also, I moved the stick pile away...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

Hmm. We do have some chicken wire fencing. They have been living around that for a really long time though. I also was thinking that the wire wouldn’t scrape off big patches like that, but you never know. That’s what I thought. Except we live in a pretty urban area, so I’m not sure what would...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

It’s ok! You’re the best help you can be, considering this has been pretty difficult to figure out. I agree with you. I think that whatever it is, they’re doing it to themselves, since the injury is in the same place every time. I’ll try to find a day to keep a close eye on them. Meanwhile...

Just realized It’s too big to remove, it would make a hole

The metal bands aren’t required, I just like how they look aesthetically and I also liked how I could make permanent writing on them. The girls don’t really care that they’re there, but I’ll reapply their bands a bit tighter and see if that makes it more comfortable for them. Their run is up...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

I only have four birds and they all look different. I mostly have the bands for easy identification at exhibitions (the bands also have my phone number, so if I lose a bird for whatever reason, someone can call me). They don’t really need the bands for everyday life.

I can just cut off the leg bands from the injured birds and wait until I’ve figured out what’s causing the injury to add their new bands. I printed out extra bands for each of the girls in case I ever had to remove a band anyways.

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

Do you think the band could cause an injury on the other leg as well? I kind of ruled it out because they’ve had their bands on ever since February and I couldn’t think of how they’d injure their other foot with the band as well. The injuries do look kind of like they could be caused by the...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

I haven’t seen any of them picking their own or each others feet, but I haven’t had time to close them up in the run and watch them for an extended period. These injuries seem to be happening in the run, because they never appear in the morning, when I let them out of the coop, but they I’ve...

What in the world could be causing these foot injuries? (Scales scraped off?)

I don’t know what to do. There’s more foot injuries on my girls. Agnes is the last one who go the injuries that I initially posted about, and now Jolene has one on both of her feet, too. The first time I saw something like this was months ago, and Jolene was the one who got the foot injury that...

I did remember about this stick pile that they’ve been hanging around recently. Maybe the injury could be caused from getting caught in it. I’ll keep a close eye on their behavior and look for any picking.

I checked their coop and their run. I don’t see anything sharp that could injure them.
