I've bought Marans several times (& spent a pretty penny) & NEVER got any nice ones...the last ones I bought were supposed to be show quality but def weren't....I have since given up on having Marans...:(

I beg to differ about the "males that are raised together get along fine" thing...I have 2 brother Gold Laced Brahma cock birds & the bigger one ALWAYS kicks the smaller one's butt. He will NOT leave him alone if they are housed together for even a minute. Otherwise he is a sweetheart though...

No, not a hatchery, unfortunately, although they seem like hatchery stock. Yes, I understand the BBS thing, where I would get 50%, 25%, & 25%....just wondering who has nice birds...I don't really care about the price as I have already spent a lot on inferior stock & would like some nice birds...

I had the same question as mine have the dark eyes as well..I read that they are cross breeds when their eyes aren't orange/bay?? Is this true? If so, it sucks because I paid good money for my "pure bred" Marans...

Cute! I have a black pullet (hopefully) as well...idk if it's a "true" black as I've read those are hard to find but am very new to Marans, so idk if that is correct or not...lol

My little blue rooster crowed yesterday. It's weird because he is only about 3 months old. Is this normal with Marans? These are the 1st I've owned. I have Brahmas as well & (some of) my Gold Laced have just started crowing and they're 6 months old.

Sorry to butt in but...So BCM should have slate grey feet? No yellow right? I am new to Marans as well & think I may have bought some that aren't up to French standard, which sucks because we paid $15/ chick. Any info is greatly appreciated. :)
