    Permethrin spray

You can bathe your birds to wash off the eggs, otherwise I think you have to wait for a molt to lose the eggs. From my experience - first, you have a different kind of lice than I did, because the lice infesting my birds laid their eggs on the feathers at the base of the tail. Second, check...

    Permethrin spray

Permethrin kills most insects. Using it in your yard will kill off beneficial bugs also. What do you have a "serious problem " with that you think you need to treat your premises? Lice need to live on animals and mites live in the environment but very close to the animals (think nest boxes...

    Permethrin spray

That's how I started, but after the first 2 birds, the rest decided that they didn't care if it was dark, they were leaving. Doesn't help that most of them "roost" on the floor, and the roost is so big that I can't reach the birds that go to the farthest back corner (and they know it).

    Permethrin spray

Good idea! My roost design does not allow me to easily catch/touch the birds. I have been wanting to re-design the coop for various reasons, and those roosts have always been top of my list. Now I have another reason to do it.

    Permethrin spray

I examined the birds more closely tonight - I am not sure that they have mites, I think the little ones I see are just younger lice. Not that lice alone aren't a problem... I sprayed the birds tonight, hoping for the best. I noticed the spray really runs off the feathers, so I am not sure...

    Permethrin spray

Thank you! I will add "treat the flock" to tonight's chores. Am I supposed to repeat treatment when I use the spray? I sprayed them about a month ago. When I checked a couple days later, I didn't see any lice or mites, but they are back now. I am wondering if I didn't get enough on the...

    Permethrin spray

So I looked at my chickens and found mites and lice on them. However, if I hadn't picked up the birds and looked, I would not have noticed any problems. Is there any "normal" level of parasites? Or if I see them, I should automatically treat?
