We used 1 x 4 to frame out the trays. I wouldn't go any less than that. You really do need some depth to it or it makes it much harder to scoop out. You aren't going to fill it right to the top anyway, this gives you some room to scoop and not push it out on the floor. Also if you are in a cold...

I've seen mine peck at the PDZ a bit here and there, but never ate it in any quantity. Like spoiledchicken said, it just works like grit for them anyway. I talked with my local feed store and got them to start carrying PDZ. Before I had to go about an hour to the Tractor Supply to get it...

Before we installed our poop boards and PDZ, we only had shavings on the floor. We went through a lot of them and in the winter it would get very smelly and damp. Now that most of the poop is on the boards and scooped out daily the shavings on the floor last forever! Very little poo in them and...

I am wondering what those of you who are using PDZ to cover the whole floor on smaller coops are thinking of it? Any problems? Are you still using it or did you change and if so why?? I'm using PDZ in poop trays in my two larger coops already and love it. We are in the process of setting up a...

I picked up Stall Dry at Fleet Farm to try as an alternative and am not as happy with it as the PDZ. I don't think it keeps the odor down as well. For me I can get the Stall Dry in town but PDZ is about an hour away, same price though.

Here's a picture of my roost set up. I don't have the measurements at the moment. I do remember the droppings board was 31" wide and the roosts are 10" above that. We used 1 x 4's to make the tray and ripped a 2 x 4 in half to make the roosts. I'm guessing the roosts are about 10" apart and...

Last weekend I talked my husband into remodeling the roost in our coop and making a poop board with a tray. I picked up a bag of PDZ at Tractor Supply for $10, I should have gotten two but one is working for now. So far I love this new system!! We made a double roost bar above it so the hens had...
