Discussion of Legbar Standard of Perfection for -Alternative- Legbars - SOP discussion

SUMMARY 3 - part 3 - and final Wrap up Start date for the thread is 10/13/14. Between then and now, 6/7/15, a great deal of information has surfaced and the pendulum of opinion has shifted considerably. Back then people were told that the only ‘to standard’ CL was very light - with...

It's time to close this thread....and move the discussion of vibrant saturated coloration to this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/979663/us-crele-and-white-sport-legbar-breeders-alternative-legbar-group-for-those-not-breeding-to-the-proposed-cream-standards As soon as I get the...

EXACTLY - what about the ones on the boarder line.... However, my point is still that perhaps NONE of those actually cream Brabanters are 'bad Brabanters' - it could be that in that breed they accept a range. And the gold will also have some variations in the intensity IMO

Yes I see what you are saying, and chestnut is not mentioned in the SOP for either saddles or hackles. Seems like this came up a couple of years ago - and if I remember, it was concluded that saddle and hackle chestnut may be indicators of missing dilution gene(s)...but it has been some long...

Something to shoot for would be like having a target that has a bulls eye . One breed that comes to mind for me is the Cream Brabanter....I was really interested in how beautiful they are...but later decided I didn't want Abraham Lincoln beards on my little hens. Here are some web-shots...

I do that ALL the time -- all the time...one of my very WORST is I say 'crest' when I mean 'comb' and 'comb' when I mean 'crest'.....

ahhh yes, it is as clear as mud. I think when you are saying different breeds within the Cream Legbar you are meaning different varieties. One point that you bring up -- also is VERY interesting regarding standards in general...and breeds like ours with sexual dimorphism. Some show...

First, I guess a lot of people didn't understand or didn't read the thought process during the thread -- but skipped - Or they didn't participate to present other views. As Kendy stated above -- our Club president has also said that there doesn't appear to be enough difference in the hens to be...

Thanks KendyF - Good insights -- I do know diddley-squat about Marans. Perhaps that is one avenue, putting more definitions in the SOP....perhaps it is 'good' as it stands. I do mean to summarize - there are just too many in the air right now for that one to be able to come in for a...

Hi TheChickenQueen, One thing we do know for certain is that CLs go through a lot of changes as they grow from chick to adult! You will want nice 'crisp' barring on your male for a couple of reasons, one of the most important reasons is that the barring is part of the autosexing of the...

Thanks caychris! Sure is a good example of how they can change -- so just to verify that photo is the same pullet as photo 3.... She kept her yellow legs... My egg layers have really light light legs now....

Although not totally relevant to the Cream Legbar and the SOP and poultry shows... Indiana is another state that is banning poultry shows. In this thread you will find post 41114 - and it is entered here as a sign of the times -- and what may affect Poultry showing in future...

Discussion of Legbar Standard of Perfection for -Alternative- Legbars - SOP discussion

Probably this thread is just about wrapped up - I will go through for the final part of the 3rd Summary to pick up loose ends. It could be kind of an exciting 'turning point' or 'fork in the road' - where the can has to be kicked down the road one way or the other - IMO there is a pretty high...

The term 'breeder' is used pretty loosely now-a-days... Here is a quote that I think is so apropos: 1." not one man in a thousand has accuracy of eye and judgement sufficient to become an eminent breeder. If gifted with these qualities, and he studies his subject for years, and devotes his...

Okay - good observation - and it was you (I think) - who said that you wanted to see the heritage of the ancestor birds in the CL - and now I'm also looking for that. -- going back to good-old - 'How much is that gold diluted?' chart: I'm really starting to look for the underlying duck-wing...

glad you wrote this - because I also have hybrids -- and part of the hybrid activity was checking up on cresting and finding out the results...so what I wrote probably came across much more negative than I meant it. Sometimes that happens. Good points about selling too....I want to see that...

Shortly after people here were involved with CLs - Walt made a prediction that people will start to cross CL with everything and try to get a frizzled CL and a naked-neck CL (or something that seemed funny and far fetched at that time, however it came true) - and I see that I'm 50 posts behind...

Discussion of Legbar Standard of Perfection for -Alternative- Legbars - SOP discussion

I have had discussions with people regarding the color - and very specifically the 'some chestnut allowed' -- we came to the conclusion that if our birds were identical in everyway except mine had chestnut on the shoulders and his did not -- then in a show his would place higher than mine. And...

SUMMARY 3 - part 2 It has to be somewhat obvious at this point that the CL has more than just one look This is based on the 2013 and 2014 UK Nationals winners: GFF bird is substituted for 2013 UK winner - the appearance is equivalent color-wise: Since both won in UK at the highest...
