    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

@Faraday40 - That is one AWESOME Broody mom!!! I have the opposite going on. I had 7 silkies that went broody in 1 big pile. Only 5 stayed the course. I gave them a dozen eggs, only 2 hatched. I gave them 4 more chicks as they hatched in my incubator. So, 6 chicks, 5 broodies. First day...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Those quail are adorable. Mine were silkies, I hatched on Thanksgiving - they are months away from laying. I still don't know if they are boys or girls yet.... My New Year's Spudd Blue's are all sexed - they were EASY to sex within weeks. They are also a few months from laying.

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

My temps were a little low this last hatch and my first pip was LATE on day 20, the first check hatched day 21, the bulk hatched on day 22, last one hatched day 23.

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Congratulations!! Great looking coop and your chicks look even better! My NY's babies are all outside now, but I'm in Southern CA. Our temps have been down in the 30's, and they are doing fine. I have a heat plate for them, but they only use it at night. Here are mine hanging out on an...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

I just got them moved an hour ago. I went to check on them and they were piled in one corner, mostly under the heat plate. It's RIGHT outside my door, so it's easy to check on them. They currently are locked into the coop section. Tomorrow morning I'll open the door and see if they want to...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

I think the heat plate will take up a little less than half of the upper area. I think they should have enough room to go under it, lie next to it, or if I pull the top off of the heat plate, let them sit on top of it. Thanks!

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Hi all! Any suggestions on moving my silkies that hatched 11/29 outside to this coop moved up against my house, with a heat plate inside? Temps should be between 46 and 65. After hearing about sub zero temps for some of you, it makes me feel silly worrying about mine. They have been in my...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Everyone has such beautiful photos. Mine are always blurry with no pretty backdrops, but they do have cute chicks in them! Here are my silkies starting to get their big girl feathers (I'm hoping for girls). It appears we have 5 dark, 5 medium color and 1 light one.

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Thank you SO MUCH! I'm so sorry about your DIS. I candled the 3 eggs that are left, and 1 was pecking at the inside of the shell - I heard click, click. I just didn't have time to pip it, so we'll see if it can hatch. 1 was clear. I'll eggtopsy the 2 that are left, if the clicker doesn't...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Yours are SO CUTE!!! I was running SO very late this morning I only had time to get a few pictures. I've had 11 hatch - 2 still aren't fluffed out yet, so they are still in with the last 3 eggs. One of which was pipped. I'll take a closer look at them this weekend, after they've had a...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

Good morning everyone!! I had a busy night last night! I got a dozen silkie eggs from RayvnFalls that I set 3 weeks ago. I decided to try a total hands off approach to these eggs. I never candled, I just set them, and on day 19 locked them down and upped the humidity. Day 21 was yesterday...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

When? Days 1 - 18 no, but 19 - 21, I run between 65 and 70. Thei eggs need to increase the air cell by a certain amount in order for them to hatch correctly. I believe that temps that high in the early days, they won't be able to lose enough.

I also have an LG 9300. I had many successful hatches from it. I never replaced the fan. You definitely want at least 1 additional thermometer/hygrometer. The one that came with the incubator for temp was horrible, and mine didn't have anything to measure the humidity. I kept the vent holes...

    November 2016 Hatch-a-long!!

I'm in!! I set 28 eggs on either Friday or Saturday, I can't remember which day. Some of my chickens had been exiled to someone else's house while I figured out my zoning troubles. There was a frizzled EE roo that was free ranging with all the girls. I brought home my frilkie, my splash...
