It looks more female to me as well. Bruce actually didn't start laying eggs until almost her third year though she was a bit of a late hatch.

X2. Bruce has always laid every other day for me. She usually goes broody on anywhere from 6-12 eggs.

She could be a late bloomer. Bruce didn't start laying until she was 2 1/2.

X2. That is an excellent guide. They're adorable!

It seems to vary from individual to individual. Some of my birds have taken quite awhile to break the habit while others are back to swimming and foraging within the hour.

Breaking broodiness is similar to breaking a hen from it. I also say go for it. There's several factors involved for fertility but I have heard of cases of eggs being fertile weeks after a male has passed.

It's possible to randomly get a few eggs now but most likely they will not lay until next spring.

X2. My goose laid close to 30 eggs this year without the presence of a gander.

I believe Chinese are the best egg layers. Buffs will be on the quiter side compared to Africans or Chinese but they can still cause quite a bit of noise. They look like what people around here call Hatchery Quality Africans. They're adorable! . It sounds like you may very well have a pair...

That's very common. Once breeding season is over they'll probably return back to their friendly demeanor. If the coop is draft free the mother will most likely be able to keep them warm enough on her own. You shouldn't have any problems breeding father to daughter.

If you're raising them together from babies I think they'll be okay either way. If you have enough females around you'll probably be fine with two ganders. If I'm not mistaken Embdens can be sexed by down color as day olds. I've never had them before so I'm not 100 percent sure of that.

. Glad you enjoyed the thread. Congrats on deciding to try waterfowl! They are a lot of fun to have around and can be a great addition to the farm.

It's no problem at all. Yes, geese do much better with a companion. Sex probably won't be a problem now but later on ganders may try to breed the ducks. What breed of gosling do you have? Some breeds can be sexed fairly accurately by color when very young.

Welcome to the geese section , 1. I have most of my goslings out by 4 weeks. However, I'm in Texas so it's pretty much always hot down here. I do usually give them a heat lamp for the first 2 weeks outside and any chilly days. 2. I would look at some of the stickies in the duck section...

It varies. Most breeds are too heavy to actually fly but the lighter breeds can sometimes get off the ground for a few yards.

Ducks and Geese are extremely different. Geese are seasonal layers, larger in size, usually quite a bit more expensive.
