What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

Yes, it turned out to be unrelated. The Cream Legbar died of Lymphoid Leukosis (tested and confirmed). As for the Whiting True Green, I don't know what caused the infection. Perhaps a rat bite. I did have a few more Legbars pass of LL but none showed the infection like the WTG so I think it was...

What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

I think you are on to something here. In fact, it's possible both birds had a bacterial infection, but one that presented itself in different forms. If so, the Whiting True Green appears to have started with a more localized infection (hence the green exudates and breast muscle infiltration)...

What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

Hmmm... I've never heard of this in poultry. Vitamin E deficiency yes, but this usually causes neurological symptoms (wry neck). The flock is currently on 17% All Flock produced by Dumor. They were on 20% starter grower, but the feed store was out of this last week so I was forced to get the...

What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

The intestines revealed a yellowish-green liquid when cut. Probably from some yolk I had fed her that day. Unlikely I think because the bird was not obese. In fact, there was very little abdominal fat at all. The liver was not hemorrhaged or ruptured, nor was it friable. Often FLHS occurs in...

What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

This is a good question. I did have a Cream Legbar pullet of the same age die naturally just the evening before this one, which is of course very suspicious. But when I did a necropsy, the symptoms were vastly different. For one, there was no rotting green material. The heart was also normal in...

What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

No, it was intact, if slightly enlarged. Quite possibly, if so some google searches indicate that this may have caused the fibrinous pericarditis. I might suspect this if it were primarily in the skin. The green/grey necrotic material unfortunately extended far into the body cavity as well...

What was wrong with this hen? (WARNING: Graphic necropsy photos)

Hi everyone, This morning I had to euthanize one of my sister's 3 pullets. She had been lethargic and not eating for about a week, and stopped laying about a week before that. When syringe fed egg yolk, the crop was slow to empty. The droppings were greenish but of normal consistency. 4 days ago...
