Are you still giving her warm water therapy? have you noticed her using her leg more in the water. I believe Dexamethasone is a steroid also. I hope you see some real improvement very soon.
Have you tried putting just enough water in the tub to where it is just a top of her legs so if she stood she would have the water as a buoy?Or will she not even try to stand even in the water?Could she have a back injury?When is the last time she has walked?
When she is in the water does she use her legs to move around does she like peas? most ducks love them? smash some and add to her feed with the BY just a small amount of feed 1 cup and peas and a Tab of BY mix well and see if she'll eat it that way.Most ducks don't even notice the BY .Maybe...
@ranbarger I don't see the tell tale blk scab I do see some swelling. Are you soaking her in warm epsom salt? I'll ask instead of going back and reading it all again since I have an apt this morning and won't be on long. Also are you still giving the meds? have you tried her in a warm bath where...
A video would be good. if you have coconut oil you can use it on her skin Let her soak in a nice warm tub of water dry her real well then use the coconut oil I have some ointment called udder cream that I have used on my Muscovy's flesh on his face. Tell us what she is eating.Vaseline would...
@ranbarger Okay read this get the clear iodine has to be the clear it's the ammonia that draws the bumble to the surface. Keep this up plus the meds till your vet gets back unless of course she goes off feed and acts really sick, then it's an emergency.
here is another thread that I have used...
What about your vet? would he/she do it. Read this thread I just posted , alot of vets aren't familiar with water fowl or poultry and don't know much on how to treat them.
Is her foot and leg real swollen hot to touch? She could have pus built up in there that needs to come out. Pus in poultry is not like pus in us it is more the consistency of cottage cheese. so It may have to be opened and the pus which is infection taken out. There was someone else just...
You can try soaking her foot in some warm Epsom salt water I use a small bucket or a plastic dish pan because you don't want them to drink this solution since ES is also a laxative ES does help with swelling and infection though so start by using 1 cup of ES to 1 gallon of warm water mix real...
The niacin should be plain not flush free did you get Poly vi sol with out iron they can't have iron either. I haven't ever used poly vi sol so lets see if we can get @Lacrystol here for right amount to give I believe she has used this vitamin
@ranbarger Welcome to BYC
Did you get plain niacin? it is important it be plain not time released or flush free. If it's 500 mgs then break it in half crush the half and mix into 1 gal of water mix it real well or it will end up on the bottom of the container. Give this treatment daily...
I don't see how trying some niacin could hurt. Sratch is mostly thought of as a treat so going with out it for a few days I doubt brought this on. It may take a little longer to notice improvement so don't give up if you don't see any in the first week. and daily water therapy would be good too...
