Thanks! Thank you. It is not something I want to repeat anytime soon. I know that half those chicks probably due to my inexperience and I really hate that. On a positive note...I truly think the eight I have are Super Chicks :D to have survived my bumbling!

May I ask where you got your Cochin eggs? And are they LF or bantam? Good luck with your hatch!

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

Well my hatch was awful. I had 45 eggs and ended up with 8 chicks! Only 27 of the 48 actually went into lockdown - mostly clear, non-starters and a few bloodrings got tossed. Hatch day was horrible...talk about trial by fire! The very first egg that pipped had done nothing for 25 hours when...

I have chicks! Three have hatched and are running around, two are zipping and one is just kinda resting in her shell. All are chirping and seem to be fine :D !

Candled my remaining 26 LF Cochin eggs last night on day 14. I removed 5 that were clear leaving me with 21 of my original 45. Of the remaining, I saw movement in the majority. There are still 3 that Im still unsure about. Overall, if the 18 that were moving hatch, I'll be a very happy...

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

I culled another 8 eggs from the bator. Seven were clear and one had a blood ring. That leaves me 27 out of 45 and I'm on day 13. If I keep going at this rate, I'm to going to hatch anything! I do have good veining and movement in most of the ones left. A few, I'm still just unsure...

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

So I had to toss 5 eggs last night...3 had blood rings and two were clear. I opened them to be sure (and to learn a little more) and one of the blood ring eggs had a noticeable forming embryo...made me sad to see the dead little guy. It also rammed home the fact that these little chicks are...

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

Yeah...Hubby and I talked about it last night. If they don't hatch, we'll grab some chicks from the feed & seed - quickly! BUT I am not going to let that be my main train of thought...everything is going to work out fine and I'm going to hatch some beautiful, SQ Cochins! :D

I've told myself the same thing. My problem will be my 2 yr old granddaughter who is now expecting to watch them hatch and then have chicks.

Thanks! Yes, the friendliness factor was the most important consideration for me. The grandchildren are young and I can't have a nasty roo chasing them lol From all of the pics I've seen, yes. I'm a complete newbie though :/

    Beginner's Hatch-A-Long

EXACTLY how I feel! Hi, I'm Missy and I'm a 1st time incubator :) . I'm very excited about this process and have been researching for about a month. At this point I feel I have enough knowledge to be completely dangerous to my eggs! I have 2 granddaughters so I researched like crazy to...
