What do you have in your flock?

Thank you for your reply RavynFallen! I agree that most are not ready. One "flew the coop" while I was standing there and was immediately mounted. She was submissive and did not get wounded. My roo also spends a lot of time patrolling the divider and doing his wing dance. It definitely can't...

What do you have in your flock?

Excellent idea! I'm pretty sure they are old/big enough to be incorporated with the others but at this rate, IDK. They've been able to see each other for weeks on end so, am I causing the problem by keeping them apart? Got our 1st egg today and I think Mr. is just trying to mate. Sorry for...

What do you have in your flock?

Good to know! I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't tried anything so far. :hide Our younger girls are one by one getting their heads ripped open by our roo. They are separated but keep flying over the partition fencing. This is the 3rd one!

What do you have in your flock?

Also, we took our RIR to the only vet near our area for bumblefoot as she has heat, swelling and the classic black scab on the bottom of her foot. He prescribed a 5 day oral antibiotic and said we shouldn't be so quick to call it bumblefoot. He also advised against Epsom salt soaks, betadine or...

What do you have in your flock?

Thanks for the info., I'll give it a look! I suspect I'm giving mine too many treats. Anybody know how much protein they need? I've got 2 layers who are eating their eggs. One (EE) just finished her molt and is fully feathered, soft, shiny and back to laying. The other (RIR) hasn't molted...

What do you have in your flock?

When I was a kid my friend took me on a "shortcut" through her neighbors yard where I got flogged by dozens of chickens. It was a horrible experience! Then, some time after that, my mother decided she wanted geese :idunno Another horrible experience! She'd set those sicker out on the...

What do you have in your flock?

Agreed! We started off with 2 RIR last year for our daughters Easter surprise. Then the following week picked up 2 EE's. This February we were given a sick RIR who healed beautifully. Of course she needed a friend so we picked up a lonely 2 week old leghorn that was in with the 3 day olds...AND...

What do you have in your flock?

I've had the same experience with white leghorn. She is actually a lot like my white Japanese bantam in temperament, and also on the petite side compared to my BO's, RIR's and CM's. Very pleasant bird :)
