We use gill-net on top of our pens. It is a pale green, and is strong enough to hold a LOT of salmon, so I figured it would keep the birds in and the predators out. ... it works.
Why DO they call you the crazy duck lady?
(I'm the Crazy Chicken Lady... CCL...)
So, how's like in the Big Valley treating you? We missed you! Did you guys get the big dump hail storm on Friday like we did?!? OMG... I haven't seen anything like that in 10 years! It was cool, unless...
dunno. Perhaps an inquiry on Craigslist would turn one up, if no one up there with you knows where to find them. I've not seen any here, and I'm not sure what type of cows there are in the fields close to me...Angus, maybe?
The valley is usually windier than most of the other areas. But we have a little bit of that "June Gloom" going on. It will warm up, no worries. But later in the fall, you'll start seeing the "termination dust" - snow in the higher elevations, and that signals the end of summer. The...
Huh. Didn't we tell you about the skeetos? aka B-52 bombers... aka the state pterodactyl?
Glad you are settling in. It will be exciting and crazy for a while, but to be expected. I can't wait to hear about your kid's first moose-in-the-yard sighting. Or better yet, a bear! LOL!
Oh my goodness... you made it!!!
I was JUST thinking about you yesterday, wondering where you were on your journey. Congratulations! It's beautiful there, isn't it. You must be exhausted... hope you take some time to unwind, and then let's find you some chickens!!!
God's own backyard, yes it is. He's been here longer'n me, but I love it just as much. Very rural here where we are... the main highway is 2 lanes, and the side streets are mostly dirt. Motorbikes and 4-wheelers run tracks alongside the highway in the summer, snowmachines (that's what we call...
I wish... The soil is a lot more clay-like and acidic from the spruce and pine trees. I have to use potting soil in raised beds, but if I'm lucky enough to have anything grow, I'm usually unlucky enough to have a moose wander through the yard and mow it down. :| I think a lot of the people...
My hubby took the one of the bears and the scenic shot above it... I took the others. Somewhat of a shutterbug family.
The top one is the Kenai River in Cooper Landing.
The second is Sport Lake, in Soldotna.
I'm not exactly sure where the third shot is from, since hubby took it, but it's...
Um... it's cold here, the sun never shines, the wind blows, and the mosquitos are the size of B-52 bombers. The moose eat your tulips, the bears eat your chickens, and the eagles carry off small dogs... other than that, it's great!
j/k... this is just what we tell everyone to keep them...
