At least I have some Prep H on hand now. I just hope it doesn't happen to my other girls.
My other d'Anver Abigail is laying really nice eggs now. No problems, and she's been a lot more friendly.
She actually didn't make it through the night.. I noticed that she was kind of headed downhill last night and wasn't walking well. I think she just wasn't eating enough, all I got her to eat was a little scratch and a little soggy oatmeal. I think it was for the best though. I found her with...
Got our off-brand prep h today (of course the off-brands name is waaaaaaay more embarrassing than just prep h) and we're planning on putting it on after her bath tonight. I took her outside last night and she seemed pretty happy to get some fresh air and see everybody.
I'll get some prep H, I think that's what she needs is just to hold everything in.
She is acting soooo much better now. I'm going to take her outside a little today so she can get some fresh air and see her boyfriend.
This hen was really skittish before this too. Now, hopefully, she'll be...
Ok, my dad really wants to cull her because he thinks I can't handle her. I'm glad your hen is back to normal, and I'll make him read your post. We've been wiping her off with a warm rag and stuffing everything back in, but I'll try the honey. Does it help hold it all together?
I feel so...
She's still alive and doing as well as I could expect. She slept a lot today. She drank a lot of water too, and ate a little scratch. I got her to eat some apples from our orchard and some bread soaked in water. I'll see what happens over the next few days.
I understand that they are not the same thing but milk does have calcium for her. I did some research and a little bit of milk (I don't even know if she's drinking it) is not going to give her diarrhea. It will give chickens diarrhea when given enough. Also, I just realized that the milk in...
Well, upon a closer look it has 18 mg of iron per caplet. I was just going to try crushing it up and putting it in water and I would see if she would drink it. Do you think that is too much iron? I found some softgels that are iron free. Soybean oil is the first "inactive ingredient", I thought...
Sorry, I went to KC for a family reunion and didn't take my laptop. She has been inside since my last post, I have a towel over 75% of her cage so she has some ventilation but is still dark. She is in a low lit room. She has been drinking water, but I don't know how much she has been eating, it...
OK, so while I was in tears, my dad was able to pull out the egg and put her funny business back in. Now she is acting lethargic and her vent keeps collapsing. Is there anything else I can do?
I know, and I wouldn't trust any other hens with her, but these girls have seen all of my bantams through thick and thin. I don't think they'll really bother her too much anyways since it is dark as hell under there.
Yeah, she's not coming out. She has a circle of big hens (Jersey Giant, Sussex, and Faverolle) protecting her, so I don't think she'll get hurt. She doesn't act like she is in pain, just like it is annoying. She keeps stopping and trying to push it out. I hope she makes it through the night.
I can't get her out from under the porch. Do you think she'll be okay for another 15-30 minutes? Nobody seems to be bothering her, as she still has her Faverolle hen protecting her. I'll try and get her when they come in to roost. I hope she's okay...
I saw my d'Anver hen (22 weeks) standing alone, she didn't seem interested in the food I was throwing out so I went to check on her. She wouldn't let me pick her up, but I saw a bloody thing hanging from her vent. Half of an egg is showing and it has a light yellow thing on it (poop?) and there...
