🌱Growing With Ben🌱 ~ The Chonicles of the Troublesome Seeds

Remember the tree snapped off last spring and hit the palm I grew? Palm is sending up bloom stalks this year. The tree still stands and is now home to a family of Pileated Woodpeckers. I've been watch 2 adults come and go since late Feb. They have been so difficult to get a picture but...

Love cattails! A neighbor planted some in a drainage ditch. They have done great. I think they look nice in dried flower arrangements. After they dried my Mom would spray them with super hold hairspray so they wouldn't seed out inside. Looked nice in a bunch alone or with other dried flowers.

🌱Growing With Ben🌱 ~ The Chonicles of the Troublesome Seeds

Had a bad storm about a month ago. The top of a tall pine snapped and fell on my shrub palm. This is the palm I grew from seed many years ago and is posted earlier in this thread. I though it was damaged badly. Looking from the window this is what I saw. It fell right beside the palm but...

Plants in my garden (outside) and indoor houseplants will grow slower this time of year due to shorter daylight hours. Agree with R2elk. Mold on indoor soil can be discouraged by increasing air circulation, such as adding a fan blowing gently nearby, not directly on the plants as this is very...

Lovely grapes. Do you do jam? We have scuppernong vines. They are just getting ready. The birds and squirrels love them too. I need to try to pick some more this week before they get them all!

The squirrels here will eat the berries green. I have to cover ours with netting before they form fruit.

Yes this is what it took to sprout the Red Bud Tree. It took almost a year and a half. I just set it to the side in bright shade. I was about to give up and there it was. I planted it in a 2 liter soda bottle with drainage, cut it half and set up like a tiny greenhouse. I put it in the...

I save several tomato varieties too. I also do some peppers, Carolina Sieva, a small lima, and a purple hull pea. Several flowers too. I never have to worry about those. One year I purchased Black Krim seeds. Grew out 6 plants and only 2 were actually Black Krim. I was so mad. You don't...
