No idea, but we are in the same boat. Mine molted in the fall, didn't lay for 3 months. Laid for maybe a month and then got really mangy looking again. I would say it's probably been since April since we got an egg from her. My Pekin is the exact same age and hasn't molted yet and lays 5-6...
She is cute! Both my Swedish are very standoffish, so I think you got lucky with a friendly one. Still waiting to see if our Blue is a boy or girl...right now it and the khaki sound like a couple of puppies yipping when they get going, no adult quacks yet.
I have a Pekin and a Swedish. The Pekin started laying at 20 weeks, the Swedish at 26. At first the Swedish's eggs came out with really dark gray bloom on them, now they are identical to the Pekin's. Before the Pekin started laying I was getting 5-6 eggs per week. Now I am getting 9-10 on...
If anyone was wondering, Daffy laid today! An obvious difference from the Pekin - her eggs have a dark gray bloom that rubs off pretty easily. With the Pekin and my EE's eggs for reference:
I would call her beak black? I don't know, nothing to compare it to. I guess I will give it another month or so and see if we get an egg! I had no idea that Swedish were so much slower to lay than Pekins.
So I still cannot tell if my Swedish is a duck or a drake. No curly tail feather but not laying yet either (about 26 weeks old at this point). Quieter than the pekin but lately has started squawking periodically like someone stepped on her/him even though no one is near.
Ok, so the eggs I've been getting look like that - but I don't know if it is the Swede or the Pekin that is laying. Almost one a day. Mine only lay at night and they have been laying in the nestbox/coop since they are shut in at night.
