I am actually more worried about them after the first 4 weeks. I am unsure when but I know full grown CX do not handle extreem heat well. And yes, thanks, I agree, I am glad this was so easily fixed. I do not know if he will outgrow it or not... hopefully

My cousin called me a few days ago. They have been running tests on her little 8 month old son since birth trying to figure out what he is allergic to. They finally determined he is allergic to penicillin, so allergic that he was having a reaction whenever he nursed after his mother ate...

My Dad wants a little saw mill. We have alot of old trees here on our farm he could take and various other places. It really would be worth it, but the initial costs can be off-putting. Mom is getting her kitchen remodeled this year, so maybe in a year or two he will look into it again. We...

Yes you can make money from pigs. What I generally see around here is people sell them privately on FB groups or some such. (Having small farm raised meat is very valuable to some, but is more work.) They buy the pig from you, and pay for their own processing. Otherwise you can take them to a...

Yes you can sell lumber, it is actually my retirement plan :D I am not positive on all the available routes for selling it, but I would start at your local lumber mill.

Processed 12 fryers yesterday. They were a little too young (12 weeks), the breast meat was not as large as I would have wanted. I had 2 older birds (16 weeks), same breed, much better breast meat. These were Red Ranger and Rainbow Dixie. I really think overall I like these breeds much...

My BR went broody for the first time last week. I do not really have a rooster so started looking for fertilized eggs. I found someone who has dark Cornish, who was willing to sell me some eggs. I am really excited, hopefully this hen will prove a good mama. She isn't up to your standards...

Let me know! I was thinking more about freezing them and then letting the girls have them in the winter, on pancakes or something of that sort. I think to get the jelly to set you need sugar (unsure about honey). How much sugar do you use?

I do not know. Like I said they grow wild here. Every animal wild or domestic eats them. My girls eat themselves sick, so did my brother and I. And they fruit all summer long. I did try to make jam out of them once, it was too sweet for me, but I was thinking wine might be nice and I wonder...

They are very sweet, little to no tartness. Here mulberry trees grow like weeds so everything eats them, including the children, and chickens. I am trying to think of a comparable berry...but most berries require sugar to eat, mulberries almost get too sweet for an adult tongue.

We need rain. I have been trying to keep up with watering but they really want a nice soaking rain. I have a bunch of Mulberries, been trying to talk myself into/out of trying to make some wine this year.

I agree there are always going to be dangers when free ranging, and you need to accept the chance for losses. But life is full of danger, especially when you are so low on the food chain like a chicken us. I have also read countless threads of people who have their coop and run locked up "like...

Maybe, but I know that names have always held a significance in human cultures, most cultures. Perhaps it is just another instance of a recurring theme I have noticed in our "civilized" societies. It seems we often take very good ideas and push those ideas to the extreem, until they become bad...
