I have been fighting off my Phoenix as broodies this spring. They are the ones that co-brooded for me. Currently my mama is a Houdan. I have a cochin and a silkie but neither has tried to brood yet. They are both less than a year old. I currently have a Muscovy duck that wants to brood. I...
Yeah. I think that's what happened. The mama is a bit, not sure what the right term is, nervous doesn't quite describe her, dingy or ditzy might be closer. She is a favorite of ours as she likes to be held but she is also very skittish and flighty at anything she is unsure of. On the other...
Thanks. I had 2 eggs disappear that I have no idea where they went. I found one chick fluffed up and dead during hatching, so not sure what happened there. Now if mama will just lead them out of the nest box we will be good. It is an extra large box so I put food and water in with them, now...
I ended up with 5 as well from my broody. Now if I can just get her to leave the nest with them. Guess it isn't bad if she stays put as we have 5 days of rain forecast.
Thanks! Got another peek today. 5 chicks, 2 eggs that she should be sitting on and 3 that were not hers. I pulled those out and am waiting on the last two. Today could be day 21 or 22.
Got a peek under the broody today. 5 fluffy chicks but one of them was dead, I wonder if she accidentally stepped on it. 4more eggs yet, I placed some in a day later so tomorrow is day 21 for some so might still get some more
Just had to peek under my broody and I saw at least 3 very fluffy chickies.
Today is day 20 but I put additional eggs in on her the next day so some are on day 19. I can't wait to see how many actually pop out!
Yes, my name is Puddin Fluff and I am a hatch-a-haulic.
Went to check on current broody to see if I could hear any peeps and couldn't because of all the other babies peeping around in the coop.
Well, today is day 20 and the 8 remaining looked good so after hatch time I plan to clean out the straw in the nest and see if it got hidden somewhere.
There is no place for it to roll away. I had another bird trying to go brood who would get in the nest and steal an egg on occasion earlier...
Canceled eggs tonight. I am not super scientific, I use an LED flashlight, and air cells look big and other end looks dark on all 8 eggs.
Odd thing: there should be 9 eggs :idunno
I set 11, removed 2 on day 8 for being clear. 11 minus 2 is 9, right? I know my math skills are bad but i...
She is in the same nest my last broody used. It worked pretty well. She is pretty grumpy so no one else is getting in with her. I was there when the last broody mama took the babies out of the nest for the first time. It was amazing to watch. They are only about a foot and an half from the...
You might try giving it some vitamins. You cen pic up polyvitasol liquid vitamins in the children's department of the pharmacy. Just place a drop or two on the side of its beak so it rolls into its mouth and you see it drink. You can also try adding electrolites to the water but if it is too...
Just remember, chicks, broodies and roos don't count because they don't lay eggs. Bantums only count as 1/2. Make sure you all get your chicken math correct.
