    Thoughts on Roosters??

I think it depends on the rooster, the neighborhood, and the proximity of the crowing to the neighbors. Remember that backyard chicken flocks aren't just on farms and large ranches. In the neighborhood where I live, we're all people with regular daytime jobs. Pretty much all of us have chickens...

    Thoughts on Roosters??

I actually feed the hawks gophers I catch in my garden. Just chuck the bodies up on top of the horse shelters; the hawks swoop down and fly off with them. I've never had a chicken taken by a hawk, even my bantams. There's an aerie with a hawk pair and their young on my hill. Chickens forage all...

    Thoughts on Roosters??

12 hens here, every single one needs to announce they just laid an egg, every day. I think the rooster issues are with roosters crowing all hours, day and night, and the early, early (4:30-5 am) wakeup crowing. That's where I think the neighbors get angry.

    Thoughts on Roosters??

    Thoughts on Roosters??

I know of 2 people who've been to the DA's office for non-compliance of nuisance crowing cease and desist orders in LA county (worked there way back). You can legally own a rooster, but you can't cause your neighbors to wake up at all hours of the night. Heavy fines for both cases for ignoring...

    Thoughts on Roosters??

I feel like you may be missing the point... If you create a noise nuisance on your property and it effects the people who live next to you or nearby, they definitely have the right to ask you to cease. You're no longer keeping what you do on your property. Say one of your neighbors suddenly...

    Thoughts on Roosters??

Unfortunately, not always the case. Neighbors do get a say, and in most counties the noise rules for incessantly barking dogs are the same for roosters. LA County will actually prosecute people who don't comply with nuisance barking/crowing/loud music after 10. If neighbors complain, then animal...

    Thoughts on Roosters??

I think the first question is how will your neighbors feel about it. My neighborhood has several properties with chickens, but none of us keep roosters. Unfortunately, in neighborhoods with smaller properties (5 acres and less), a crowing rooster wakes everyone up. Some roosters only crow...
