I know someone who needs to rehome a handsome EE rooster. He is alone right now, so she is hoping to see him with a flock of some kind. Let me know if you are interested. She is in the NEK, but she may be willing to meet further away. Maybe I can even help to get him to Morrisville, or meet...
Yes, they were able to find some. Their rooster should be old enough soon, so hopefully they'll join the ranks as well.
Chive, was this your first Vermont fall? Even though it was long ago I remember my first very vividly, but this one wasn't the best show since it was kind of drawn out. Up...
It stands for Front Porch Forum. It is a platform for a neighborhood forum, so you can submit a post and it gets sent out in an email list to other folks in your area that signed up. You get an email, too. Some guy in Burlington started it. I don't agree with all their policies, but it does help...
Wow, I hope it is only ten. Did you all hatch a lot of eggs? I know some folks that could take them for food, but I can't think of anyone wanting one for a flock, but craigslist usually works for homes. You can also do FPF if you are on there.
Maybe we should start a campaign to convince people...
Thanks for responding. I can probably get some to them, I'm not super far, but then I have to have one of my customers wait. I feel bad doing that, but that customer already told me it would be fine.
I had another friend that was looking for a bunch of hatching eggs last spring, but there were...
Anyone close-ish to the Morrisville/Stowe area have fertile eggs that they would be willing to sell? A farm in that area is looking for a half dozen or so to put under a broody hen. Pretty sure I would need to connect you by email, as well.
It is funny, I seem to love all of the country folk who move here. Some of the city folk don't seem to realize that we just don't pass a tractor when it isn't safe and honk our horn in outrage while doing so.
Me too. I went to college in Boston. I wanted to understand what it was like. I was out of there as fast as I could as soon as school was done. The people in my neighborhood were great, but too much noise and pollution for me.
That's cool. I have a friend outside Carlisle. It seems like some of the communities with a lot of farming in PA are pretty similar to here. Both have that Appalachian feel to them. But they can grown peach trees more successfully. 😄
Now is usually when you will notice the nights and days start getting colder. We used to see frosts up north the first week of September without fail, but that has changed in the past 10 years.
September will have colder nights, you'll see a lot of 40s, maybe some 30s or even 20s. You may also...
I had a random question. This may be a long shot, but does anyone on this thread have young chicks (0-2 weeks old) that they would be willing to sell me? I have two broody Brahma hens. I got three under one, but I was hoping for 1 or 2 more to get under my second one.
I checked craigslist, but...
Yeah, it is good that a lot of folks in Vermont live in the highlands. Low-lying places looked pretty crazy from the news reports. We can't even drive to our local town since all roads in and out are closed.
We're up high, too, but wow, what a mess. I almost left my buff brahma outside, too, because she was out hiding in a bush, soaking wet. That girl is nuts.
Did anyone go into town today? That is probably where you'll see most of the flooding. We just hid. I almost wanted to see what it was...
Awesome. I've been here 13 years. I was born in NH, but I came here because where I am now is what my hometown used to be like before it got over-developed.
The first time we got orpingtons we ended up with 5 of them at the same time. My daughters just named them after every state they could think of that still sounded like a pretty name. I never could tell them apart, but would just yell Dakota, Virginia or Carolina at them if they were being...
